Zubimendi has high expectations. |
On July 6th, Arsenal completed the signing of midfielder Zubimendi from Real Sociedad for a fee of nearly 70 million euros. The Standard reports that the Spanish international will earn approximately 86,000 euros per week at the Emirates Stadium, with a contract running until 2030.
Zubimendi's salary at Arsenal is a significant increase compared to what he received at Real Sociedad (around €57,000 per week, according to Capology ). This figure does not include performance bonuses at the Emirates Stadium, along with huge bonuses from the Premier League and Champions League.
Before signing Zubimendi, Arsenal decided to part ways with midfielder Thomas Partey, who earned a salary of up to €200,000 per week. Partey expected a pay raise in his new contract, but Arsenal refused. Ultimately, the two sides decided to go their separate ways, saving the Gunners a significant amount on their wage bill.
At Arsenal, Zubimendi will be reunited with two former teammates, Martin Odegaard and Mikel Merino – a signing the London club acquired from Sociedad last summer for €32 million. Along with Declan Rice, these are key players in the Gunners' midfield from next season onwards.
Zubimendi also has 15 caps for the Spanish national team, excelling in ball recovery, interceptions, and initiating attacks – qualities that manager Mikel Arteta desperately needs to upgrade his midfield.
