Increased flights to serve the April 30th holiday.

(PLVN) - The April 30th and May 1st holiday in 2025 will last for 5 days. The demand for air travel is so high that ticket prices are comparable to those during the Lunar New Year holiday. Therefore, on April 15th, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam directed Vietnam Airlines Group (including Vietnam Airlines, Pacific Airlines, and VASCO) to plan for increased flights to serve the upcoming peak period.

High airfares are due to demand exceeding supply.

According to reporters, travel companies and airline ticket agents have almost sold out tickets for the April 30th and May 1st holidays. Despite significantly higher prices compared to normal days, tickets on many routes are nearly sold out. A survey of ticket prices on the websites of domestic airlines shows that a one-way ticket from Hanoi to Phu Quoc (on April 26th) on Vietnam Airlines ranges from 2.7 to over 4.1 million VND for economy class, while a ticket from Hanoi to Da Nang costs nearly 1.4 million VND. Not only tourist destinations, but many other flight routes during the holiday also saw price increases of around 30%, causing considerable difficulties for travelers.

Specifically, for domestic routes, Bamboo Airways and Vietnam Airlines listed the highest ticket prices at around 3.6 and 3.7 million VND, while Vietjet Air had slightly lower prices, ranging from 2.9 to 3.6 million VND, and Vietravel Airlines recorded prices up to 3.41 million VND. These prices are equivalent to those recorded during the Lunar New Year 2025.

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Le Duc Que, owner of An Binh ticket office, said: During the April 30th and May 1st holidays, airfares are high due to the large demand for travel and tourism , so many routes are almost sold out, and if tickets are still available, the prices are high. Therefore, customers don't have many options.

According to Ms. Pham Thi Tuyet (residing in Ba Dinh district, Hanoi), her family decided to travel to Da Nang for the long April 30th and May 1st holidays. Initially, they planned to book plane tickets for the whole family (4 adults and 1 child), but the prices were too high, forcing her to reconsider and try to save money.

Adding 3,200 more flights and putting Terminal T3 into operation.

The Vietnam Civil Aviation Authority announced that due to the strong increase in air travel demand during the April 30th - May 1st, 2025 holiday period, domestic airlines plan to operate more than 7,500 domestic flights during this peak period, averaging about 685 flights per day. Compared to normal days, the number of flights has increased by more than 24%, and the number of seats offered has increased by about 20%. Notably, flights to and from Ho Chi Minh City still account for the largest proportion, averaging more than 460 flights per day. Specifically, on the Hanoi - Ho Chi Minh City route, Vietnamese airlines are expected to operate 1,261 flights, providing 305,000 seats.

During the upcoming April 30th - May 1st holiday, Vietnam Airlines Group will provide more than 610,000 seats, equivalent to over 3,200 domestic flights, representing increases of 35% and 29% respectively compared to the same period last year.

On April 17, 2025, Tan Son Nhat International Airport will put into operation Terminal 3 – a key project and iconic landmark of Ho Chi Minh City. With its modern design and a comprehensively invested system of access roads and overpasses, Terminal 3 will handle nearly 80% of all domestic flights arriving and departing from Tan Son Nhat Airport. The newly constructed Terminal 3 has a capacity of 20 million passengers per year, accommodating 7,000 passengers per hour during peak times, and can handle all types of aircraft (Code C and Code E). This will help alleviate congestion at Tan Son Nhat Airport and facilitate passenger travel during the April 30th - May 1st holiday and in the future.

To enhance passenger service, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam announces adjustments to the flight schedule coordination parameters at Tan Son Nhat International Airport during the April 30th - May 1st holiday period and the 2025 summer peak season. Specifically, during the April 30th - May 1st holiday period (from April 25th to May 5th, 2025), the Civil Aviation Authority will increase the flight schedule coordination parameters for runways, taxiways, and air traffic control services to 46 flights/hour between 6:00 AM and 11:00 PM; and adjust to 36 flights/hour between 0:00 AM and 5:00 AM.

Furthermore, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam affirmed that it will closely monitor the booking and reservation situation and ticket price fluctuations of airlines during peak periods to ensure transparency, market stability, and timely access to ticket price information for passengers.

Speaking to the press, Mr. Dang Anh Tuan, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Airlines, said: In April, Vietnam Airlines will put into operation a special edition aircraft featuring the image of the Lac bird - a sacred cultural symbol of the Vietnamese people.
