At purchasing points like Sa Dec (Dong Thap), the supply of rice is abundant, and warehouses are well-stocked, especially fragrant rice, which is being traded smoothly. Some large warehouses are showing particular interest in OM18 rice. In Cai Be ( Tien Giang ), the market is stable, and high-quality rice is easy to sell. Meanwhile, in Lap Vo (Dong Thap), prices are trending slightly downward due to increased supply.

Regarding rice, according to updates from the An Giang Department of Agriculture and Environment, raw OM 380 and OM 5451 rice both increased slightly by 50 VND/kg, fluctuating between 7,700 - 7,900 VND/kg and 8,550 - 8,650 VND/kg respectively. OM 18 rice is currently priced from 9,300 - 9,500 VND/kg. IR 504 rice fluctuates from 8,000 - 8,100 VND/kg, while finished IR 504 rice decreased to 7,600 - 7,800 VND/kg.

Retail prices for various types of rice at the market remain unchanged. Nang Nhen rice continues to be the most expensive, at 28,000 VND/kg. Fragrant rice varieties such as Jasmine, Huong Lai, and Nang Hoa range from 18,000 to 22,000 VND/kg. Regular and common white rice remains at 15,000 to 17,000 VND/kg.

Rice prices today, March 21, 2025: Slightly increased by up to 100 VND/kg

The glutinous rice market is fairly stable today. IR 4625 glutinous rice fluctuates around 7,900 – 8,000 VND/kg, while 3-month dry glutinous rice maintains a higher price of approximately 9,600 - 9,700 VND/kg. Fresh IR 4625 glutinous rice is traded at 7,600 - 7,700 VND/kg.

Prices of by-products also remained relatively stable. Fragrant rice bran ranged from 7,100 - 7,300 VND/kg, grade 3-4 rice bran around 6,800 - 6,900 VND/kg, dry rice bran stayed at 5,550 - 5,700 VND/kg, and rice husk was around 800 - 900 VND/kg.

Rice purchasing activities in localities such as Can Tho, Soc Trang , An Giang, and Dong Thap remain steady. In Can Tho, the winter-spring crop is almost finished, and prices are stable. Soc Trang has intermittent demand, and rice prices remain firm. In An Giang, rice purchasing activities are generally proceeding as usual. In Dong Thap, traders are mainly interested in fragrant rice. In Kien Giang, however, due to the peak of the harvest season having passed, the remaining rice supply is low, making it difficult for traders to purchase.

Rice prices saw some slight adjustments today. IR 50404 rice increased by 100 VND/kg, fluctuating between 5,500 and 5,700 VND/kg. OM 5451 rice remained at 5,800 - 6,000 VND/kg. Dai Thom 8 and OM 18 rice maintained their prices in the range of 6,500 - 6,600 VND/kg. Nang Hoa 9 rice was at 6,300 - 6,500 VND/kg.

On the export market, Vietnamese rice prices remained largely unchanged today. 5% broken rice stayed at $394/ton, $8/ton higher than Pakistani rice but lower than Thai and Indian rice. Vietnamese 25% broken and 100% broken rice reached $368 and $313/ton respectively.

According to data from the Philippine Department of Agriculture, the country's rice imports reached only about 640,000 tons by mid-March, a decrease of nearly 46% compared to the same period in 2024. The main reasons are expectations of a better domestic harvest and the impact of the policy of capping the price of imported rice.

This situation could open up more opportunities for Vietnamese rice in the future, as many foreign businesses are seeking more stable and competitively priced sources of supply in the international market.
