According to the plan of the Ministry of Education and Training , the 2025 High School Graduation Examination will take place on June 26-27. This year marks the first cohort of students under the new general education program taking the graduation exam. Candidates will take four compulsory subjects: Mathematics and Literature, along with two elective subjects they have studied at school: Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Geography, History, Economics and Law Education, Informatics, Technology, and Foreign Language.
To enable schools, teachers, and 12th-grade students to proactively prepare for the exam, the Ministry of Education and Training announced 18 sample exam papers for the 2025 High School Graduation Exam in October 2024, approximately 5 months earlier than the announcement of sample exam papers in previous years. This helps to proactively prepare for the exam through teaching, learning, and revision.
This year's high school graduation exam will closely follow the high school curriculum, primarily focusing on the content of grade 12 and content that builds upon what was covered in grades 10, 11, and 12. The exam will include challenging questions requiring students to relate the material to real-world problems. Therefore, during their preparation, students should familiarize themselves with reasoning and research techniques for topics that can be related to real-world situations in order to effectively meet the exam requirements.
A notable point is that this year's graduation assessment will include both exam scores and academic performance scores from high school, in a 50/50 ratio. Therefore, students' academic performance throughout their studies plays a very important role.
In addition, one of the new points in university admissions related to candidates using the high school transcript-based admission method is that the new regulation will use the academic results of the entire 12th grade year (instead of only the first semester's scores as in previous years). Therefore, adhering to the academic requirements of the high school curriculum is very important to increase the chances of university admission.
The regulations for the 2025 high school graduation exam will no longer include early university admissions. According to the Ministry of Education and Training, experience over the years has shown that applying early admissions prolongs the admissions process, requiring students to obtain confirmation of their high school academic results from multiple educational institutions, leading to wasted social resources. In particular, many institutions announce a large number of early admissions but very few students actually enroll, indicating the ineffectiveness of early admissions and the large number of "phantom" applicants. Therefore, to ensure students are equipped with the necessary foundational knowledge for university studies, the new regulations will no longer include early admissions starting this year.
To best prepare for the 2025 High School Graduation Examination, in light of the exam's new requirements, high schools in Quang Ninh province have intensified differentiated instruction based on students' abilities and aptitudes. Alongside this, they have strengthened assessment and evaluation methods to apply appropriate review techniques for each student group. Specifically, schools are focusing on the notable new aspects of this year's exam, namely the changes in the structure of the multiple-choice tests with the addition of two new question types: true/false and short-answer multiple-choice.
2025 marks the first year that students participating in the High School Graduation Examination will be tested on the 2018 General Education Program with many innovations. To best prepare for this important exam, high schools in the province have been implementing early review sessions, helping 12th-grade students build a solid foundation of knowledge and confidently enter the exam.
