The ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the technical opening of phase 1 of the Tuyen Quang - Ha Giang expressway project.

These are two key transportation infrastructure projects, aimed at opening up new development opportunities and affirming the locality's position in the overall development strategy of the northern midland and mountainous region.

Phase 1 of the Tuyen Quang- Ha Giang Expressway project (the section through the former Ha Giang province) commenced in June 2023, bringing joy and excitement to the people of the northernmost region of Vietnam. The expressway is over 27 km long, with two lanes, a 12-meter wide road surface, and a high-grade A1 asphalt concrete pavement. Along the route, 11 bridges and 29 pedestrian underpasses are being constructed, with a total investment of over 3,681 billion VND.

The project involves a massive amount of work, traversing complex mountainous terrain, and is being constructed during years with heavy rainfall, which has affected the construction process and progress. However, with the determination to complete the project by the end of 2026 in accordance with the Prime Minister 's directives, the local Party committee and government have intensified propaganda and mobilization efforts to support the project and expedite compensation and land clearance. During construction, relevant agencies have coordinated with the local authorities to promptly resolve difficulties and obstacles related to land and construction materials, creating favorable conditions for the contractor to accelerate progress.

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Tung, Director of Package 04-XL of the project, shared: “The staff and workers on the construction site are always striving to closely monitor the progress of each item, taking advantage of every favorable weather day to carry out construction, ensuring quality, labor safety, and environmental hygiene.”

According to Mr. Luong Van Doan, Director of the Investment and Construction Project Management Board of Tuyen Quang province, during the implementation process, the management board and contractors organized flexible construction, regularly inspected and reviewed the progress, and promptly adjusted construction methods to suit weather and terrain conditions. During peak periods, contractors mobilized thousands of personnel and numerous machines, organizing construction in "3 shifts, 4 teams" to ensure the set progress.

According to the plan, the project is expected to be basically completed by the end of 2026, ensuring quality, technical, and aesthetic requirements. Upon completion, the project will gradually address bottlenecks in inter-regional and intra-regional transportation, shorten travel time, and create favorable conditions for the development of industry, agriculture, and tourism in the highland province.

Recently, the province held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Tuyen Quang-Ha Giang expressway project, phase 2, continuing from phase 1 of the Tuyen Quang-Ha Giang expressway (from Tan Quang commune to Thanh Thuy International Border Gate). The project has a total investment of over 14,800 billion VND, a length of over 57 km, a 4-lane expressway, and is scheduled for completion between 2026 and 2030.

Currently, the province and relevant agencies are actively and comprehensively preparing for the project's investment. "We are working closely with relevant agencies, local authorities, and consulting firms to prepare and appraise the project's feasibility study report; ensuring full compliance with legal regulations and meeting the requirements for rapid construction," said Mr. Le Thanh Son, Director of the Department of Construction of Tuyen Quang province.

Upon completion, the project will complete the Phu Tho-Tuyen Quang-Thanh Thuy International Border Gate expressway, connecting with the Noi Bai-Lao Cai expressway, thereby creating new development opportunities for the locality. According to Mr. Hoang A Chinh, Deputy Head of the Management Board of Industrial Parks and Economic Zones of the province, the simultaneous completion of the two phases of the Tuyen Quang-Ha Giang expressway project will break the monopoly of National Highway 2, improve transportation capacity and goods circulation; thereby facilitating investment attraction into the border economic zone, promoting import and export of goods, and strengthening economic and trade cooperation between Vietnam and China.

The expressway will contribute to increasing connectivity between Tuyen Quang province and northern localities in the Red River Delta region, thereby promoting the flow of goods at the Thanh Thuy (Vietnam) and Tianbao (China) international border gates and vice versa. At the same time, it will enhance connectivity between the northern highland localities of the province and national highways, provincial roads, industrial zones, border economic zones, and key tourist areas, contributing to socio-economic development and ensuring national security and defense.
