This year, the province planted approximately 13,000 hectares of rice during the spring crop season. To ensure efficient spring production, the Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment issued a document guiding the crop structure and planting season for the 2025-2026 winter-spring crop; and a document directing crop production for the 2025-2026 winter-spring crop season in the province. Accordingly, localities have proactively selected rice varieties suitable to the climate conditions, with high yield and quality, resistance to pests and diseases, adaptability to unfavorable external conditions, and medium to short growing periods, such as: Nep Thom 86, Nep 97, ADI 28, ADI 168, BC15, Dai Thom 8, J01, J02, Kim Cuong 111...
After completing the spring rice planting, localities are now implementing rational water management according to each area. At the same time, they are encouraging farmers to clear the waterways of the irrigation system, making maximum use of water from ponds, lakes, and streams to supply water to the fields. Furthermore, localities have developed water release schedules for each area, avoiding the simultaneous release of water into the fields; farmers are advised to regularly inspect their fields, detect pests and diseases, and treat them promptly to prevent widespread outbreaks.

Mr. Dinh Duc Thang, Chairman of the People's Committee of Phu Yen commune, said: "This spring, the entire commune has planted over 1,000 hectares of rice. Currently, the rice is entering the tillering stage - this is one of the important stages that determines rice yield. To take good care of the rice during this period, we have guided farmers to monitor the appropriate water level in the fields, and if necessary, to carry out early thinning and replanting to ensure the appropriate density for good rice development..."
In the rice fields of Bua Thuong 1 village, Gia Phu commune, the rice plants are entering the tillering stage. From early morning, farmers have been checking the fields, monitoring the water level and the development of the rice plants, as well as detecting any rice diseases. Mr. Lo Van Toan from Bua Thuong 1 village informed us: "This spring, my family planted 4,000 m² of rice. At this time, the rice needs sufficient water and nutrients, so we regularly check the fields, dredge and clear the waterways, and bring water into the fields. We have also prepared enough fertilizer to ensure the rice grows and develops well."

In Chiềng An ward, this year is a leap year, and the weather has been unpredictable in the early months, so farmers are planting spring rice later than usual. In the fields of Lả Mường village, farmers are thinning and replanting rice seedlings 10 days after sowing. The rice varieties chosen by farmers in the ward include BC15, Đài thơm 8, etc. Before the Lunar New Year 2026, the People's Committee of the ward directed the General Service Center to regularly monitor the production situation of farmers to provide technical support. At the same time, they ensured a reserve of seeds for nearly 70 hectares of rice cultivation in the locality.
Ms. Lo Thi Hoa, from La Muong village, Chieng An ward, shared: "The rice fields in La Muong village have the advantage of being close to the Nam La stream, so since the end of January, we have proactively stored water in the fields in combination with land preparation. At the same time, we have proactively consulted about high-quality rice varieties such as BC15 and Dai Thom and the SRI rice cultivation method to plant on an area of 2,000 square meters. Currently, the rice is developing quite well, and I have also prepared sufficient fertilizer for topdressing in the coming time."

In the early months of the year, rainfall in the province was low, and some localities were at risk of drought, affecting the yield and quality of the spring rice crop. Accordingly, the Department of Agriculture and Environment advised the Provincial People's Committee to direct communes and wards to assess the potential for water shortages in certain areas. They were instructed to proactively store and regulate water from irrigation systems to ensure an efficient water supply for production and daily life. In addition, farmers in communes frequently experiencing water shortages were guided to use short-day rice varieties with good drought tolerance during periods of water scarcity.
Mr. Le Sy Tuyen, Deputy Head of the Irrigation and Water Resources Sub-Department, informed: Facing the potential risk of drought, the Sub-Department has advised the Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment to coordinate with localities to assess water needs for production and daily life; repair and dredge reservoirs and irrigation canals to prevent loss and waste, ensuring water supply for rice growth. In the next month, based on monitoring, if rice fields do not have sufficient irrigation water, depending on the specific conditions of each locality, farmers will be guided to switch to other crops to ensure income for the 2026 spring crop.
With the support of agricultural experts, farmers in localities throughout the province have been proactively implementing measures to care for the spring rice crop, helping the rice plants grow and develop well, giving farmers confidence in a successful spring harvest.
