Focus on responding to Typhoon No. 6

On August 30, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha signed a dispatch from the Prime Minister regarding focusing on responding to Typhoon No. 6.

The official dispatch stated that Typhoon No. 6 (international name Nongfa) is moving rapidly (at a speed of approximately 20-25 km/hour) towards the sea and land areas of the central region of Vietnam.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, Typhoon No. 6 will make landfall in Ha Tinh province and the northern part of Quang Tri province – areas already affected by Typhoon No. 5; provinces from Thanh Hoa to Hue City will experience heavy to very heavy rain; there is a very high risk of flash floods, landslides in mountainous areas and flooding in low-lying areas, riverbanks, and urban areas. This is a fast-moving typhoon, making landfall during the weekend and while preparations for the National Day celebrations on September 2nd are underway.

To proactively respond to Typhoon No. 6 and the resulting floods, ensuring the safety of people's lives and minimizing damage to people's and the State's property, the Prime Minister requests the chairmen of the People's Committees of provinces and cities to regularly and continuously monitor and update information on the development of the typhoon and floods, in order to proactively direct the implementation of appropriate response measures based on the specific developments in their localities.

The Prime Minister requested continued review and counting of ships and vessels operating at sea; using all means to inform ships and vessels still operating at sea about the storm's developments; guiding them to move out of and avoid entering areas at risk of being affected by the storm; calling on and guiding ships and vessels to safe shelters; guiding and supporting people in implementing necessary measures to ensure the safety of ships at anchorage (preventing sinking at shelters), especially to prevent damage from thunderstorms and lightning before the storm directly impacts...

The Minister of Agriculture and Environment instructed the meteorological and hydrological forecasting agency to continue closely monitoring and providing complete and timely information on the developments of the storm and floods to relevant agencies and the public so that they can proactively implement response measures; proactively direct the work of ensuring the safety of dikes, reservoirs, and irrigation dams, and protecting agricultural production; organize 24/7 duty shifts to closely monitor the situation, proactively direct and urge localities to implement response measures appropriate to the actual situation, and promptly report and propose to the Prime Minister for direction on issues beyond their authority.

The Minister of Industry and Trade directed the work of ensuring the safety of hydroelectric dams; ensuring the safety of the power system; proactively responding to incidents in areas predicted to be at high risk of being isolated due to flooding and landslides; and ensuring the supply of essential goods.

The Ministry of National Defence and the Ministry of Public Security are directing the preparation of plans and proactively deploying forces and mobile resources to support people in localities predicted to be at high risk of being cut off or isolated due to the impact of storms and floods; and are ready to deploy response and rescue operations when required.

Vietnam Electricity Corporation is urgently implementing measures to ensure the safety of hydropower reservoirs, transmission systems, and power infrastructure projects, and is preparing measures to quickly overcome the consequences and ensure electricity supply for production and daily life of the people.
