So, what are the perspectives and feelings of the world towards Vietnam and its people? We can find the answer somewhere in the collection of foreign postage stamps titled "World Stamps Tell the Story of Vietnam" by stamp collector Hoang Anh Thi - Chairman of the VIET STAMP Club. This special stamp collection is part of a postage stamp exhibition themed "80 Years of Vietnam Reaching Out to the World," displayed at the Ho Chi Minh City History Museum.

Unlike previous thematic stamp collections about Vietnam, this special collection uses only foreign stamps and postal items related to Vietnam to offer a general overview of the world's perspective and sentiment towards the country. Through stamps and letters from countries around the world, Vietnam is presented through familiar yet sacred images. These include maps, the national flag, the national emblem, National Day, the capital city, the Communist Party of Vietnam … as well as distinctive cultural and historical values and identity such as bamboo, lotus flowers, rice, Ha Long Bay – a world natural wonder…

With its rich history and cultural identity, Vietnam has appeared numerous times on postage stamps issued by other countries. Images of the country, its people, scenic spots, historical events, and prominent figures are selected for these stamps to demonstrate the interest, respect, and close relationship between Vietnam and the international community.

These stamps and letters also depict great Vietnamese people – President Ho Chi Minh , General Vo Nguyen Giap, hero Pham Tuan, famous figures, honest and hardworking farmers with fervent patriotism, children, and successful Vietnamese people abroad. In particular, these stamps and letters recount the journey of a resilient and indomitable Vietnam in its fight against foreign invaders through images of the Indochina War (1946-1954) and the Vietnam War (1954-1975). Emerging from war with countless difficulties and challenges, Vietnam's image of rising to prominence in the era of integration is also clearly portrayed through the perspective of the world. This is the process of building and continuously strengthening friendly cooperative relations with countries around the world and being an active member of international organizations.

The collection not only showcases the brave, hardworking, and creative people and country of Vietnam, its unique nature and culture, but also represents a nation of peace and innovation, aspiring to stand alongside friends from all over the world to contribute to the common goals of the world's people: peace, justice, development, equal cooperation, and mutual benefit.

For a long time, images of Vietnam have been present on postage stamps worldwide, starting with a stamp issued by France in 1931 featuring a Vietnamese woman in traditional attire: a four-panel dress, a conical hat, and carrying a yoke. Over time, images of Vietnam have appeared on postage stamps more frequently, spanning many different fields. Today, images of Vietnam on postage stamps have become an attractive collectible topic, not only for stamp collectors but also for the general public and international friends who love the S-shaped country.

According to stamp collector Hoang Anh Thi: Postage stamps are not only a means of payment in postal delivery but also a unique art form, containing layers of information about history, culture, nature, and people. Therefore, each stamp is considered a small "business card" with great reach, introducing the image of the nation to the world.

"I think, historically, only Vietnamese stamp collections about Vietnam have been common, but a world stamp collection about Vietnam is difficult to create, and once it's accomplished, it makes us even more proud and appreciative of the name 'Vietnam'," stamp collector Hoang Anh Thi confided.

Exploring the 80th anniversary Vietnamese stamp collection "Reaching Out to the Great Sea" at the Ho Chi Minh City History Museum, Nguyen Ha Hai My (a student from Dong Nai) shared: "Every detail and image, though small, on these international stamps and letters is connected to the cultural characteristics, people of Vietnam, and historical periods. Through them, the public, and especially young people, can learn more about their country through a new and unique lens."
