Hoi An's Bài Chòi (traditional folk singing) is an indispensable part of the cultural experience for both tourists and locals whenever the ancient town is mentioned. As the sun sets, the courtyard between Hoi An's streets and the Hoai River becomes bustling with the sounds of singing and music. Anh Duc Anh, a tourist from Hanoi , shared: "I find this game very meaningful; it's not only a way to try my luck at the beginning of the year but also to learn many beautiful folk songs."

Each deck consists of three cards, each with a letter. The cards used are from a standard 27-pair deck of cards called "Tam Cuc," with the following names: Nhat Tro, Nhi Ngheo, Ba Ga, Tam Quang, Tu Cang. As the dealer draws each card, the person in the booth who matches that card shouts it out. If they match three cards, they win.

Distinguished artisan Luong Dang has dedicated over 24 years to preserving and promoting the cultural heritage of Bai Choi folk singing. He has been the main Bai Choi singer in "Old Town Night" since 1999.

The radiant smiles and expressions of surprise mixed with delight on the faces of tourists, especially the children, as they listen to the cheerful yet profound folk songs performed by the male and female singers of the Bài Chòi folk theater.

The folk songs in Hoi An praise the beauty of the homeland, the unity within the community, and the good traditional moral lessons of the Vietnamese people. The most enjoyable aspect of participating in Hoi An's Bài Chòi is not winning or losing, but the refreshing laughter and joyful sounds that linger after each night.
