According to a statement from the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs , Minister Maris Sangiampongsa will hold talks with Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Saleumxay Kommasith.

The two Ministers will review the results of the Thai Prime Minister’s official visit to Laos in October 2023, including cross-border trade and transport cooperation, infrastructure connectivity between the two countries and within the region, tourism cooperation and the common challenge of transboundary haze. The two sides will also discuss regional and international issues of mutual concern.

During the one-day visit, Minister Maris Sangiampongsa is expected to pay a courtesy call on host Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone and meet with representatives of the Thai business community in the land of a million elephants.

According to Thaipbs , this will be the first official foreign visit of Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, who was approved by the King of Thailand as the country's new Foreign Minister earlier this month. According to tradition, the newly appointed Foreign Minister of Thailand will make his first official trip to this neighboring country.

A week earlier, Minister Maris Sangiampongsa met with her Japanese counterpart Yoko Kamikawa in Tokyo.

Last year, during Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin’s visit to Vientiane, both countries pledged to increase bilateral trade to $11 billion by 2025. Mr. Srettha affirmed that Thailand is ready to support economic activities between the two countries and turn Laos and northeastern Thailand into a “growth zone”.
