According to a statement from the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs , Minister Maris Sangiampongsa will hold talks with Lao Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Saleumxay Kommasith.

The two ministers will review the outcomes of the Thai Prime Minister's official visit to Laos in October 2023, including cross-border trade and transport cooperation, infrastructure connectivity between the two countries and in the region, tourism cooperation, and the shared challenge of transboundary haze. They will also discuss regional and international issues of mutual concern.

During his one-day visit, Minister Maris Sangiampongsa is scheduled to pay a courtesy call on the host country's Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone and meet with representatives of the Thai business community in Thailand.

According to Thaipbs , this will be the first official foreign visit for Maris Sangiampongsa, who was approved by the King of Thailand as the country's new Foreign Minister earlier this month. Traditionally, a newly appointed Thai Foreign Minister makes their first trip to this neighboring country.

A week earlier, Minister Maris Sangiampongsa had met with his Japanese counterpart Yoko Kamikawa in Tokyo.

Last year, during Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin's visit to Vientiane, both countries committed to increasing bilateral trade to US$11 billion by 2025. Mr. Srettha affirmed that Thailand is ready to support economic activity between the two countries and transform Laos and Northeast Thailand into a "growth zone".
