On the afternoon of November 22nd, at the Presidential Palace, President Vo Van Thuong received Comrade Saleumxay Kommasith, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, on the occasion of his visit to Vietnam and co-chairing the 10th Vietnam-Laos Ministerial-level Political Consultations.
During the meeting, President Vo Van Thuong congratulated the Lao Party, State, and people on the achievements they have made in recent years; and expressed confidence that under the wise leadership of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and the decisive direction of the Lao Government, the fraternal Lao people will overcome all difficulties and challenges, successfully implementing the resolutions of the 11th National Party Congress and the 9th Five-Year Economic and Social Development Plan.
The President congratulated and highly appreciated the successful conclusion of the Ministerial-level Political Consultations between the two countries, which made a practical contribution to strengthening the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Saleumxay Kommasith thanked President Vo Van Thuong for taking the time to receive the delegation and respectfully conveyed greetings from the high-ranking leaders of the Lao Party and State to the high-ranking leaders of the Vietnamese Party and State.
In informing the President of the results of the 10th Ministerial-level Political Consultations, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Saleumxay Kommasith expressed gratitude to the Party, State, and people of Vietnam for their continuous support and solidarity with the Party, State, and people of Laos, demonstrating the special affection and valuable assistance that the Party, State, and people of Vietnam have given to Laos.
Both sides expressed pleasure at the significant achievements in cooperation over the past period, especially the close coordination between the two countries, the strengthening of delegation exchanges, high-level contacts, and important bilateral cooperation mechanisms; emphasized the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos, which is unique in the world; and proposed that both sides continue to nurture and educate future generations to further promote the precious sentiments of the Parties and peoples of the two countries, considering this an invaluable asset of the two nations that have always stood side by side, sharing joys and sorrows throughout the process of national liberation struggle and national development.
President Vo Van Thuong thanked Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Saleumxay Kommasith for coordinating with relevant Lao agencies to provide support and favorable conditions for Vietnamese expatriates, including the Vietnamese community and Vietnamese businesses, to live and work in Laos, actively contributing to building a more prosperous Laos and serving as a bridge to strengthen and cultivate the special Vietnam-Laos relationship.
Discussing international and regional issues of common concern, both sides agreed that, given the current rapidly changing and complex global and regional situation, they need to enhance information sharing, coordination, and close cooperation in regional and international forums.
President Vo Van Thuong affirmed that, in the spirit of brotherhood, Vietnam will wholeheartedly support Laos in successfully fulfilling its important international responsibilities in the coming period, including its role as ASEAN Chair in 2024.
