The 249th Engineering Brigade's deployment of the pontoon bridge construction project presented numerous challenges. The old ferry landing near the Lo River bridge had been unused for many years and was almost completely silted up. Both riverbanks were primarily alluvial soil with weak geological conditions, making bridge construction impossible without comprehensive technical adjustments. Under tight deadlines, the engineering corps carried out a series of crucial technical tasks, including: hydrological reconnaissance, topographic surveys, determining the landing site and bridge alignment, constructing approach structures to ensure stable foundations, calculating load-bearing capacity, and assessing operational safety factors.

General Nguyen Tan Cuong met with the people at the inauguration ceremony of the Doan Hung pontoon bridge on the morning of the 29th of Tet (Lunar New Year).

According to Colonel Nguyen Hong Giang, Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of the Engineering Corps, in a short period of time, with the close coordination of the 2nd Military Region, the Air Defense-Air Force Command, relevant units and localities, nearly 800 officers and soldiers participated in the construction. Two access roads were completed urgently: the left bank is 75m long and 10m wide; the right bank is 89m long and 11m wide. More than 70,000 cubic meters of earth and rock were excavated and filled, creating a solid foundation for the pontoon bridge system.

Simultaneously, the equipment was launched from noon on February 15th. After meeting all technical requirements, the engineering corps proceeded with the joining of the sections. In just 90 minutes, the 60-ton capacity PMP pontoon bridge was completed, with a total length of over 220m, consisting of 31 offshore sections and 2 abutment sections, connecting the Dong Tam area with the Dai Hoi area of Doan Hung commune.

On behalf of the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense, General Nguyen Tan Cuong acknowledged and commended the sense of responsibility and outstanding efforts of the forces involved in constructing the Doan Hung pontoon bridge across the Lo River. This success is a testament to the proactive spirit of the engineering corps, the close coordination of the armed forces of Military Region 2, the Air Defense-Air Force Command, and local Party committees and authorities, especially the consensus of the people.

In a conversation with Lieutenant Colonel Dao Van Hung, Deputy Commander of the 249th Engineering Brigade, it was noted that the Doan Hung pontoon bridge has proven remarkably effective since its commissioning. As of noon on February 22nd, the bridge had safely served nearly 80,000 people and vehicles. According to Mr. Nguyen Van Van, Secretary of the Party Committee of Doan Hung commune, the pontoon bridge not only meets the basic transportation needs but also serves as a connection and a source of joy in the daily lives of the people.

From an urgent order issued just before the Lunar New Year, with the highest sense of responsibility and close coordination, the forces transformed the difficult task into concrete and effective action. The Đoan Hùng pontoon bridge not only connects the two banks of the Lô River but also extends the people's trust in the Party, the State, and the Army. It is also a vivid testament to the qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers in peacetime, always ready to put the interests of the Fatherland and the people above all else.
