Thanh Hoa develops its border region economy.

The border region of Thanh Hoa district, Long An province, is undergoing dramatic changes day by day. From a once desolate and sparsely populated area, it has now become a shining example of socio-economic development and the maintenance of national defense and security, thanks to the decisive involvement of the local Party committee, government, and armed forces.

Thanh Hoa District has an 8.9km long border with Cambodia, passing through two border communes: Thuan Binh and Tan Hiep. Due to its large area and sparse population, the lives of the people are fraught with difficulties. In light of this situation, the Party Committee and the government of Thanh Hoa District have identified that unlocking potential and encouraging people to live and develop economically in the border region is one of the important tasks, contributing to poverty reduction while strengthening the national defense posture in conjunction with a solid people's security posture.

With strong political determination, the Thạnh Hóa District Party Committee and People's Committee have closely coordinated with various sectors and levels, especially the local armed forces, to proactively address institutional and policy difficulties, focusing on investing in essential infrastructure and creating favorable conditions for people to confidently settle in the border areas and build new lives.

One of the most notable achievements is the investment in a comprehensive infrastructure system in the border area. The 5km-long rural road connecting Thuan Binh commune with Tan Hiep commune, implemented by the District People's Committee, runs along and connects with the border patrol road, creating favorable conditions for people's travel and production.

In addition, a power line for local residents, with a total investment of over 7.6 billion VND, has been put into operation, including a 6.7km single-phase medium-voltage line, six 50 kVA transformer stations, and a 6.17km low-voltage line. Bringing electricity to every household in the border area not only provides light but also symbolizes life, hope, and a bright future.

In particular, the kindergarten school, funded by the 7th Military Region Command and officially put into operation, is a vivid testament to the care and attention from many sides, helping children in border areas have the opportunity to study in better conditions. This "electricity - roads - schools" system has become a driving force for people to voluntarily register to live in residential areas adjacent to border militia posts, creating a new face for the border region.

Since 2020, when only 10 households voluntarily moved to live in border settlements, that number has now increased to 40 households with long-term stability, and another 26 households are building houses and preparing to settle down. Each family is a story of resilience, of aspirations to build a career and create a future in this sacred land of the Fatherland.

For the young couple, Mr. Phan Van Oc and his wife, in the border residential area of Tan Hiep commune, the daily routine consists of taking their children to Tan Hiep kindergarten and then working in the fields. During their free time, Mr. Oc works odd jobs to earn extra money to support his family. Day after day, the simple yet warm life of this young couple unfolds. Mr. Phan Van Oc, a young resident of the border residential area of Tan Hiep commune, shared: “Life in the border area is much different than before. There are roads, electricity, and our children can go to school near home. My wife and I will definitely choose this place to settle down long-term.”

Not only have many households stabilized their lives, but they have also risen to develop their economy and become legitimately wealthy. For example, the family of Mr. Nguyen Cu Ap, a Catholic from Ben Tre who moved to the border area of Thanh Hoa to start a business, used to collect scrap metal but has now become the owner of a scrap yard thanks to accumulation and investment. The house he built on border land, with support from Military Region 7 and Long An province, is a testament to the success of sound policies and the people's efforts to overcome difficulties.

The border settlement of Thuan Binh commune is equally bustling. From isolated houses where farming was the primary occupation, some families here have opened busy grocery stores and taken on other side jobs. Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, born in 1994, a dynamic young woman in the border settlement of Thuan Binh commune, said: “Besides farming on the 1 hectare of land my parents gave me as a dowry, I also do garment manufacturing work, and my husband works as a delivery driver to increase our income. Thanks to this, my family can feel secure and committed to this border area.”

These changes were achieved through a coordinated effort involving Party committees, government agencies, armed forces, and the people. The policy of establishing residential areas adjacent to border militia posts is a strategic step, possessing both profound humanitarian significance and long-term importance for the cause of national construction and defense in the new situation.

Through providing land for housing, funding for house construction, investing in technical infrastructure, and caring for education, healthcare, and livelihoods, the forces have truly "built bridges" connecting the people's hearts with the border defense strategy. The sustainability of the border region comes not only from these projects, but also from the people's trust in the Party, the State, and the local government.

The border region of Thanh Hoa is transforming day by day, gradually realizing its aspiration for prosperity and sustainability.

From a desolate wasteland, it has now become a gathering place for young families, for dreams of starting a business and the belief in overcoming hardship. Protecting the land with human kindness. Defending the border with a peaceful and stable life for the people.

And it is the people, with their hands, minds, and hearts deeply attached to their homeland, who are contributing to building this "living fortress" on the border of the Fatherland.
