In 1938, Mr. Vi Tu Hao was born into a poor family in Indochina (Zhejiang, China). Since childhood, he has been passionate about learning and likes to explore knowledge. Even though he was born in a difficult time where he could not eat enough, he still focused on studying: "I would rather go hungry than drop out of school."

With unremitting efforts, in 1957, he entered Hangzhou University (now Zhejiang University) majoring in Chinese. After graduating, he taught at several schools in Zhejiang.

Thanks to his outstanding achievements in Chinese, in 1980, the teacher was invited to participate in compiling the "Chinese Dictionary". In 1999, he retired after nearly 40 years in the pulpit. Retiring at the age of 61, he received a monthly salary of 5.600 yuan (19,2 million VND). With this amount of money every month he can live freely and comfortably, without depending on his children.

By chance one day, he read an article about children in highland areas who were poor and unable to pay school fees. The more he read, the heavier his heart became. More than anyone else, he knows clearly that poverty gives children a desire for knowledge and advancement in life.

After careful consideration, Mr. Hao made an unexpected decision. He donated his entire pension fund so that children in disadvantaged areas could go to school. In addition, to get more money, he also collects trash and rags and then sells them to scrap recycling stations.

Mr. Hao maintained this job for 16 years after retiring. Many times, he saw people's eyes of discrimination and alienation towards him. His only hobby at this time is sitting at the Hangzhou Library reading books.

Time passed, on November 18, 11, Hangzhou was cloudy and raining continuously. As usual, he wore old clothes, one hand held a broken umbrella and the other held a bamboo pole and trash bag. Despite the rain and wind, he still tried to pick up trash in the hope of finding something.

At 22 p.m., he passed the intersection and saw the green light, so he quickly ran to the opposite side. Unfortunately, an accident happened, the speeding taxi crashed straight into him. Everyone took him to the emergency hospital, but he did not survive after 20 days due to multiple organ failure.

The incident made his children even more angry at their father. Accordingly, Mr. Hao's three daughters advised their father to stay at home and take care of his old age. However, no matter what he said, he still went out to pick up trash at night.

After packing his things, his three daughters realized that they had misunderstood their father for many years. He spent his entire 3 years of retirement picking up trash to raise money so poor children could study. Even though he has left the world, his work and contributions are still mentioned by people.
