The South Pacific nations will be among the first to usher in the new year 2025, led by New Zealand. In Auckland, thousands are expected to gather in the city center or climb ancient volcanoes to enjoy the fireworks display.
Two hours later, the Australian city of Sydney will follow suit with over a million people flocking to Sydney Harbour. The program will include a performance by pop star Robbie Williams and traditional ceremonies honoring Indigenous people.
In South America, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, continues to assert its title as the "heart of the festivities" with the region's most spectacular countdown party. Over 2 million people are expected to gather on Copacabana Beach to witness a 12-minute fireworks display, launched from 10 ships offshore, and enjoy vibrant concerts by top stars such as Anitta and Caetano Veloso.
Meanwhile in the US, New York eagerly awaited the New Year with the traditional "crystal ball drop" ceremony in Times Square, combined with explosive performances by the Jonas Brothers and TLC, promising a vibrant atmosphere for millions of viewers.
In Asia, people are equally excited to prepare for the most important holiday of the year. In Japan, temples and homes are meticulously cleaned, and even tatami mats are "shaken clean" with large sticks.
The Year of the Snake, symbolizing renewal and rebirth, brings hope for auspicious new beginnings. Small, smiling snake figurines have appeared in shops, adding to the festive atmosphere of the New Year.
Meanwhile, Jakarta (Indonesia) promises a vibrant and spectacular atmosphere with an impressive display from 800 drones and dazzling fireworks at the Indonesia Hotel roundabout.
In Vietnam, although it is not yet the traditional Lunar New Year, localities across the country are organizing many cultural and artistic activities to celebrate the new year 2025.
