Exchange rate movements in the global market.

In the US market, the US Dollar Index (DXY), which measures the fluctuations of the US dollar against six major currencies (EUR, JPY, GBP, CAD, SEK, CHF), closed the week up 1.60%, reaching 106.67.

The DXY index has surpassed its highest level recorded immediately after the US presidential election, as the market continues to await clarity on future US policy.

On November 13th, the US dollar continued to rise by 0.41%, reaching 105.95 amid market expectations that higher-than-expected tariffs would push prices up, making it less likely that the Federal Reserve (Fed) would cut interest rates.

The yield on the benchmark 10-year US Treasury bond also rose 13.1 basis points, reaching 4.439%. Following the Fed's recent decision to cut the benchmark interest rate by 0.25 basis points to 4.50%-4.75%, traders are now betting on a 59% chance that the Fed will cut interest rates again in December.

After rising for almost the entire week, the greenback closed the trading week down 0.18% at 106.67, but still achieved its biggest weekly gain in over a month. Fed Chairman Jerome Powell said the US central bank does not need to rush to cut interest rates.

This fuels traders' expectations that the Fed will limit its interest rate cuts next month and beyond.

On the other hand, data released by the US Department of Commerce on November 15 showed that US retail sales increased slightly more than expected in October, but consumer spending appeared to slow at the beginning of the fourth quarter.

Conversely, the EUR is heading for a second consecutive weekly decline after falling to its lowest level since October 2023. The currency closed the last trading session higher at $1.054025.
