The family of Mr. Dang Lien Tang, in Tan Tien village, is one of the households that has effectively developed the cinnamon tree planting model in the commune. In 2012, after being informed and encouraged by commune officials, his family proactively reclaimed hillside forest land to plant more than 3,000 cinnamon trees on an area of about 1 hectare. Mr. Tang said: "During the process of planting and caring for the cinnamon trees, I participated in training courses on transferring scientific and technical knowledge about planting and caring for forests, so the trees are developing well. In 2025, my family's cinnamon forest will be harvested, bringing in nearly 400 million VND in income. Recognizing the economic benefits of cinnamon trees, my family is currently continuing to plant new trees on the harvested area and continue to care for about 5 hectares that were planted in 2014."
Not only Mr. Tang's family, but currently, most households in Tan Tien village are growing cinnamon trees to develop their economy. Mr. Dang Quy Vuong, Party Secretary and Head of Tan Tien village, said: "Out of 109 households in the village, 100% have cinnamon forests with a total area of over 200 hectares. In recent years, cinnamon has been the main source of income for the villagers. Thanks to the cinnamon forests, many households have risen out of poverty and become well-off. By the end of 2025, the entire village will have only 5 poor households, a decrease of 14 households compared to 2024."
Along with Tan Tien village, the cinnamon planting movement has developed strongly in other villages in Thien Long commune over the years. Cinnamon has become the main crop here. Some villages have large cinnamon growing areas such as Khuoi Na, Khuoi Bong, Hop Thanh, Thanh Binh…
Mr. Hoang Dang Duy, Head of the Economic Department of Thien Long Commune, said: "In recent years, to encourage people to develop cinnamon cultivation, the commune has created favorable conditions for people to access preferential loan sources for planting and caring for cinnamon; and organized training courses to provide people with knowledge and experience in production. Specifically, every year, the commune coordinates with relevant units to organize 3-4 training courses on forest planting and care techniques. To date, the total outstanding loan balance of people in the commune at the Binh Gia Branch of the Social Policy Bank has reached 57.2 billion VND, with 866 borrowing households."
Thanks to the guidance of the commune and the proactive efforts of the people, the area of cinnamon cultivation in the commune has increased to over 1,400 hectares, becoming one of the communes with the largest cinnamon cultivation area in the province. On average, the commune's annual cinnamon bark harvest reaches over 200 tons, bringing in an economic value of 4 billion VND.
Not only focusing on planting and selling raw cinnamon, the commune is now gradually developing deep processing to increase the value of its products. Currently, there are two cooperatives in the commune specializing in purchasing, preliminary processing, and processing products from cinnamon trees. Each year, these cooperatives purchase tens of tons of cinnamon bark, leaves, and branches from households. In addition, in 2025, the Tan Hoa Cinnamon Agricultural Production and Service Cooperative in the commune has developed cinnamon scented sachets that meet OCOP standards (One Commune One Product program).
It is evident that the economic benefits of cinnamon cultivation have helped many people in the commune escape poverty and become wealthy. This has contributed to reducing the commune's poverty rate from 12.64% in 2024 to 4.86%; and achieving an average per capita income of 38 million VND/person/year in 2025 (an increase of over 5 million VND compared to 2024). Based on these practical benefits, Thien Long commune aims to increase the total cinnamon cultivation area to 2,500 hectares by 2030, while also diversifying cinnamon products to enhance the value of cinnamon and provide stable income for the local people.
