(VTC News) - After performing flood prevention duties in Tran Yen district, Yen Bai province, Major Tran Dong, Chief of Van Hoi commune police, returned to work and unfortunately died suddenly.
Colonel Le Thi Thanh Hang, Deputy Director of Yen Bai Provincial Police, said that Major Tran Dong died suddenly in his office at 10:00 a.m. on September 15, after completing his task of fighting floods and overcoming the consequences of storm No. 3.
Authorities actively participate in flood rescue in Yen Bai.
Major Tran Dong's family situation is very difficult, his wife is a teacher, 2 children, one in grade 5 and one 3 years old. Major Tran Dong does not have his own house, the whole family is living with his wife's family on Thanh Nien Street, Co Phuc Town, Tran Yen District. At this time, the street where his family lives is still flooded, no electricity, no water, the agency cannot bring Major Dong here to do the burial procedures. The unit decided to bring Major Dong's body to his parents' family in Hung Khanh Commune, Tran Yen District. "The sad thing is that Major Tran Dong's father has just passed away for 69 days," Colonel Le Thi Thanh Hang informed. According to Colonel Hang, Yen Bai Provincial Police will report and ask for the opinion of the Ministry of Public Security to have a suitable plan to consider whether Major Dong is eligible for military rank and proposed as a martyr or not because this is not a case of sacrifice while on duty but died in the office. The Deputy Director of Yen Bai Provincial Police also said that two officers and soldiers whose relatives died due to landslides while performing flood prevention duties in the locality were Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Manh Lam, Deputy Head of Nguyen Phuc Ward Police (Yen Bai City, Yen Bai Province) and Private Hoang Trong Diep, working at the Yen Bai Provincial Police Detention Center.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and leaders of the Ministry of Public Security visited, shared and encouraged the family of Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Manh Lam.
The family of Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Manh Lam suffered a landslide at around 9:00 p.m. on September 9. The entire house was buried, and Lieutenant Colonel Lam's mother, Duong Thi Dieu, and younger brother Hoang Van Tam (a military officer who took the opportunity to visit home to help his mother weather the storm) were killed. On the morning of September 10, the house of Private Hoang Trong Diep (working at the Yen Bai Provincial Police Detention Center), from Minh Xuan Commune, Luc Yen District, Yen Bai Province, was buried by a landslide, killing all 5 people in the family (including grandparents, father, mother and younger sister). The provincial police have arranged for Private Hoang Trong Diep to return home to take care of the family's funeral. Regarding these two cases, Colonel Hang said that the unit had organized timely visits and had a general support policy. During his working trip to direct the overcoming of the consequences of storm No. 3 in Yen Bai, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh also directly visited and expressed condolences to the family of Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Manh Lam, Deputy Chief of Police of Nguyen Phuc Ward. "Currently, Yen Bai Provincial Police have implemented support policies in accordance with regulations as well as ensuring the responsibility and affection of officers and soldiers in the armed forces," said Ms. Hang.
