(VTC News) - After completing flood control duties in Tran Yen district, Yen Bai province, Major Tran Dong, Chief of Police of Van Hoi commune, unfortunately died suddenly upon returning to his office.
Colonel Le Thi Thanh Hang, Deputy Director of the Yen Bai Provincial Police, said that Major Tran Dong died suddenly in his office at 10:00 AM on September 15th, after completing his duties in flood control and post-typhoon recovery.

Major Tran Dong's family circumstances are very difficult. His wife is a teacher, and they have two young children, one in 5th grade and the other 3 years old. Major Tran Dong does not have his own house; the whole family is living with his wife's family on Thanh Nien Street, Co Phuc town, Tran Yen district. At this time, the street where his family lives is still flooded, without electricity or water, so the agency cannot bring Major Dong back there for burial procedures. The unit decided to bring Major Dong's body back to his parents' home in Hung Khanh commune, Tran Yen district. "Sadly, Major Tran Dong's father also passed away 69 days ago," Colonel Le Thi Thanh Hang informed. According to Colonel Hang, the Yen Bai Provincial Police will report and seek the opinion of the Ministry of Public Security to determine whether Major Dong is eligible for posthumous promotion and be considered a martyr, as this is not a case of dying in the line of duty but dying in his office.
The Deputy Director of the Yen Bai Provincial Police also stated that two officers lost family members due to landslides while carrying out flood control duties in the area: Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Manh Lam, Deputy Head of Nguyen Phuc Ward Police (Yen Bai City, Yen Bai Province), and Private Hoang Trong Diep, working at the Yen Bai Provincial Police Detention Center.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and leaders of the Ministry of Public Security visited, offered condolences, and encouraged the family of Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Manh Lam.

Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Manh Lam's family was hit by a landslide around 9 PM on September 9th. The entire house was buried, and his mother, Duong Thi Dieu, and younger brother, Hoang Van Tam (a military officer who had taken time off to visit home and help his mother cope with the storm), perished. On the morning of September 10th, the house of Private Hoang Trong Diep (working at the Yen Bai Provincial Police Detention Center), originally from Minh Xuan commune, Luc Yen district, Yen Bai province, was also buried by a landslide, killing all five members of his family (grandparents, parents, and younger sister). The provincial police arranged for Private Hoang Trong Diep to return home to handle the funeral arrangements. Regarding these two cases, Colonel Hang stated that the unit had promptly visited and provided general support. During his working trip to Yen Bai to direct the recovery efforts following Typhoon No. 3, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh also personally visited and offered condolences to the family of Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Manh Lam, Deputy Head of Nguyen Phuc Ward Police. "Currently, the Yen Bai Provincial Police have implemented support policies in accordance with regulations, as well as ensuring the responsibility and affection of officers and soldiers in the armed forces," Ms. Hang said.
