VOV.VN - At over 1 PM this afternoon, officers and soldiers from the 2nd Military Region; the 24th Border Guard Training School; the Military Command and the Border Guard Command of Lao Cai province bid farewell to the people of Lang Nu village, Phuc Khanh commune, Bao Yen district, concluding 15 days of enduring rain and mud, overcoming difficulties and hardships to search for missing victims in the horrific flash flood that occurred on the morning of September 10th.
The soldiers prepared their belongings to return to their unit and hand over their duties to the local forces.
The farewell ceremony took place at the Lang Nu Village Cultural Center.
The farewell was without flags or flowers, but it was filled with emotion, regret, and reluctance to part among the soldiers, government officials, and local people.
Hoang Quoc Bao, Secretary of the Bao Yen District Party Committee, presented the flag planted on the roof of the Lang Nu village cultural house to the search and rescue forces.
The soldiers observed a minute of silence to remember those who had died before leaving Nu Village and returning to their unit.
Undeterred by difficulties and hardships, for the past 15 days the soldiers have been wading through rain and mud searching for the missing person.
Thank you to the people of Nu Village for always supporting and loving us, providing food and accommodation for the soldiers during the past few days to carry out their mission.
With heavy hearts, we said goodbye to the people of Nủ Village.
Upon hearing the news that the soldiers were returning to their unit, the villagers gathered to cook sticky rice, wrap cakes, and pick fruits from their gardens to express their affection and gratitude.
After the armed forces withdrew, local forces including militia and residents continued the search for the 12 missing victims. Bao Yen district continued to mobilize excavators to assist in digging through mud and rocks.
