Prior to the opening of the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival - DIFF 2026 , over 95% of tickets for the opening night had been sold out, and hotel occupancy rates along Da Nang's coast reached 85-95%, an increase of more than 10% compared to the same period last year. A vibrant tourist atmosphere enveloped the city these days, as thousands of visitors continuously flocked to coastal resorts, entertainment venues, and the city center to await the magical fireworks display that would once again burst into the sky.
DIFF has undergone a significant transformation since 2017.
These impressive figures not only reflect the appeal of DIFF 2026 itself, but also demonstrate the festival's growing position on the international tourism map. To achieve its current popularity, DIFF has undergone a powerful transformation, from a local event to a driving force for tourism growth and the brand of the entire destination.
Prior to 2017, the fireworks festival was merely a two-night event, involving only 4 to 5 competing teams and costing tens of billions of VND in the budget. Although it created a unique identity for the city on the Han River, the festival had not yet fully realized its potential to become a large-scale tourism product and establish itself internationally .
Sun Group and its journey to transform Da Nang into the "fireworks capital".
The turning point came when Da Nang decided to privatize the event and chose Sun Group as its co-organizer. Instead of simply taking over a fireworks competition, Sun Group completely transformed the approach, turning this exciting contest into a two-month-long festival, with eight international fireworks teams participating – now up to ten. This is complemented by a series of accompanying activities organized throughout the festival.
The stands are always packed every DIFF season.
The results exceeded expectations. In May 2017, the first year Sun Group organized the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival, the total number of tourists visiting Da Nang increased by nearly 50%, with international visitors increasing by 81.2%. Total tourism revenue reached VND 1,801 billion, an increase of nearly 50% compared to the same period the previous year. The DIFF 2025 season contributed to increasing the number of visitors to Da Nang in the first six months of 2025 to nearly 5.8 million, with estimated revenue from accommodation, food, and travel exceeding VND 18,200 billion.
Year after year, the festival continues to be upgraded in both scale and quality. From an event without dedicated grandstands, DIFF today boasts a large-scale grandstand system with over 10,000 seats and a professionally invested performance stage. Each season brings further innovations in technology, art, and audience experience.
Travel + Leisure acknowledges the appeal of DIFF.
It's no coincidence that Travel + Leisure included DIFF in its list of the 9 most worthwhile festivals on the planet. The magazine noted that if mid-summer is the ideal time to relax by the rivers, Da Nang has fully capitalized on that advantage by hosting DIFF. This festival is a truly iconic event for the city of Da Nang.
Ms. Nadia Shakira Wong, Director of Global 2000 – the "mastermind" behind the light shows at DIFF – once said: " Da Nang is no longer an unfamiliar name; it has now become a 'fireworks capital' on the list of destinations for the world's most prestigious fireworks teams. Previously, we had to persuade international teams to participate. Now, top fireworks teams from Europe to Asia proactively contact Global 2000 to request a spot to perform on the Han River."
The stature of DIFF has changed with each fireworks season. The journey from a competition without grandstands to one of the top 9 most worthwhile festivals on the planet has also transformed Da Nang's status. This transformation is thanks to the companionship, creativity, and relentless breakthroughs of Sun Group – the name behind numerous projects beautifying Da Nang, from the prestigious InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula resort to the Sun World Ba Na Hills complex famous for its legendary Golden Bridge, and many more projects that will soon be admired by the world.
The opening night, themed "Nature," officially took place on the evening of May 30th and was broadcast live on VTV1 from 8:10 PM. Subsequent competition nights will be held every Saturday evening.
