This is a collection of essays and critiques on the literary career of a writer who dedicated his life to children's literature, edited by Associate Professor Dr. Van Gia. The book provides readers with in-depth information about the works of writer Nguyen Nhat Anh. Among them, there is one piece of information that has particularly caught the attention of many readers.
That is, in the appendix to the Chronology of Writer Nguyen Nhat Anh, readers will discover that many of the author's works have been honored at numerous awards and polls organized by various agencies and organizations.
Notable achievements include the 1990 A Prize for Young Literature for the novel "The Troublesome Boy, " organized by the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union; "Kaleidoscope " topped the "10 Most Loved Books" poll organized by the Children's Literature Committee - Vietnam Writers Association, the Culture and Arts Committee - Voice of Vietnam Radio , Kim Dong Publishing House, Tre Publishing House, and the Committee for Population, Family and Children in 2006; "I Am Beto" was voted the best work of the year by readers of the Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper in 2007; "Give Me a Ticket to Childhood" became the best-selling book at the Ho Chi Minh City International Book Fair in 2008...
In particular, in 2012 alone, a series of the author's works such as "Give Me a Ticket to Childhood," "Leaves Within Leaves," "Kaleidoscope," "The Girl from Yesterday ," etc., were consistently voted as the most favorite works by readers through programs organized by various organizations.
This illustrates that reading culture has historically been a focus of attention for many organizations and institutions. These polls have created a vibrant atmosphere in the publishing industry as a whole, thereby providing a boost and motivation for authors to create.
In particular, another important stakeholder, the reader, is no longer an outsider but is given the opportunity to express their interest and appreciation for a particular work/author. This contributes to the success of polls and awards.
Meanwhile, over the past nearly 10 years, activities such as voting for favorite works, authors, and books, as well as bestsellers, have almost ceased to be organized. Book awards have also significantly decreased, with only a few remaining, organized by professional associations and publishers.
Every year, we have Book and Reading Culture Day (April 21st) with many activities encouraging reading habits, but we completely lack events and activities to honor works and authors, introduce good books to readers, and encourage authors with high-quality works.
Perhaps it's time for a collective effort to revive the vibrant atmosphere surrounding books, as it once was, so that cultural life, especially reading culture, can flourish even more.
