This is a collection of essays and criticisms about the literary career of a writer who devoted his life to children's literature, edited by Associate Professor, Dr. Van Gia. The book provides readers with in-depth information about the works of writer Nguyen Nhat Anh. Among them, there is a special piece of information that many readers pay attention to.
That is, in the appendix of the Chronicle of writer Nguyen Nhat Anh, readers discover that many of the writer's works have been honored at a series of awards and polls organized by agencies and units.
Some notable examples include the 1990 Young Literature A Prize for the novel Troublesome Boy organized by the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union; Kaleidoscope topped the poll for “10 most favorite books” organized by the Children’s Literature Department - Vietnam Writers Association, the Culture and Arts Department - Voice of Vietnam Radio , Kim Dong Publishing House, Tre Publishing House and the Population, Family and Children Committee in 2006; I am Beto was voted by readers of the Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper as the best work of 2007; Give me a ticket to childhood became the best-selling book at the Ho Chi Minh City International Book Fair in 2008...
In particular, in 2012 alone, a series of works by the writer such as Give me a ticket to childhood, Leaves in the leaves, Kaleidoscope, The girl from yesterday ... were continuously voted by readers as the most favorite works through programs organized by many units.
It can be seen that reading culture has been paid attention to and focused on by many units and organizations. And it is these polls that have created a vibrant atmosphere for the publishing industry in general, thereby also creating a push and motivation for authors to create.
In particular, another important subject, the reader, is no longer left out, but is given the opportunity to express his interest and love for a certain work/author. From there, it creates success for the polls and awards.
Meanwhile, in the past 10 years, activities to vote for works, authors, favorite books, best-selling books, etc. have almost ceased to be held. Book awards have also decreased significantly, with only a few remaining from professional associations and publishers.
Every year, we have Book and Reading Culture Day (April 21) with many activities to encourage reading habits, but there is a complete lack of events and activities to honor works and authors, introduce good books to readers, and encourage authors with good quality works.
Perhaps it is time to join hands to restore the vibrant atmosphere for books as it was before so that cultural life, especially reading culture, can develop more strongly.
