Escape poverty thanks to preferential loans.

(QBĐT) - In recent years, thanks to preferential loans from the Social Policy Bank (NHCSXH), many poor and near-poor households and policy beneficiaries in Tuyen Hoa district have invested in building economic models. With this capital combined with the advantages of the locality, many households have risen out of poverty and achieved legitimate wealth.

Previously, the family of Mr. Dinh Hong Son, residing in Kim Son village, Son Hoa commune (Tuyen Hoa district), was classified as a poor household. In 2018, Mr. Son received a loan of 50 million VND from the preferential loan program for poor households, vouched for by the Son Hoa Commune Farmers' Association to the Tuyen Hoa District Branch of the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies (VBSP), to develop his economy . Having approximately 2 hectares of hilly land that had been left fallow for a long time, Mr. Son and his wife decided to renovate it to plant fruit trees and raise livestock. With encouragement from the local associations and authorities, along with the preferential loan and their savings, Mr. Son drilled a well, purchased fruit tree seedlings, and built a livestock farming system.
Mr. Son shared: “Initially, I decided to experiment with planting orange and pomelo trees. After a period of care, I found that these fruit trees were suitable for the soil and climate conditions here. Seeing this, I invested in buying more seedlings and fertilizers, and hired laborers to clear land and expand the area. To produce efficiently, I participated in many training courses organized by the Farmers' Association at the commune and district levels on applying science and technology to farming and livestock raising, and learned from the experiences of friends… Thanks to this, my family's production is not only stable but also developing further.”

Starting with 200 pomelo trees and 300 orange trees, he boldly expanded to 700 pomelo trees (300 Phuc Trach pomelo trees and 400 green-skinned pomelo trees) and 800 orange trees of various types. With the belief that fruit tree cultivation requires organic fertilizer, Mr. Son's family decided to build barns and purchase livestock for large-scale farming. Initially, he raised 3 breeding crossbred cows and 10 pigs for meat. To date, his total herd of crossbred cows has grown to 12, his pig herd maintains approximately 50-70 pigs for meat per year, along with 3 breeding sows and hundreds of free-range chickens.
Thanks to the proper use of capital and the right economic development strategy, Mr. Son's family earns nearly 1 billion VND annually, with a net profit of 300 million VND per year. In 2021, his family escaped poverty. Mr. Son himself is recognized by the Farmers' Association at all levels as a pioneer in the gardening and economic development movement, and is a model member of the Tuyen Hoa District Gardening Association.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy's family, residing in Kim Lu 1 village, Kim Hoa commune, was previously classified as a poor household. In 2016, she received a loan of 50 million VND from the preferential loan program for poor households and 25 million VND from the Women's Development Support Fund (under the Provincial Women's Union) from the Tuyen Hoa District Branch of the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies. Using this capital, Ms. Thuy invested in building pig pens to develop pig farming. To start, she bought 10 piglets to raise as breeding sows. Thanks to her skillful farming techniques and training in animal husbandry and veterinary medicine, her pig herd thrived.
To date, she has developed her pig farm to 15 breeding sows. Each year, her family sells approximately 100 market-ready pigs and dozens of piglets to the market. Since adopting this pig farming model, Ms. Thuy earns over 200 million VND per year after deducting expenses.

In early 2024, Ms. Thuy borrowed an additional 50 million VND from the District Branch of the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies to start a business selling animal feed and groceries. In addition, she planted nearly 5 hectares of acacia trees, which are now ready for harvest. “Thanks to preferential loans, I was able to invest in economic development. Currently, my family has accumulated capital, built a spacious house, and invested in my children's education and stable jobs,” Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy shared.
Not only the family of Mr. Son and Ms. Thuy, but many other households in Tuyen Hoa district have also received loans from the Social Policy Bank to develop their economy effectively. In particular, many poor and near-poor households, as well as those eligible for social policies, have borrowed capital and used it for the right purposes, thus escaping poverty and achieving legitimate wealth. To date, the number of poor households in the district is 893, accounting for 3.65%; and the number of near-poor households is 868, accounting for 3.53%…
According to Ho Hai Duong , Deputy Director of the Social Policy Bank branch in Tuyen Hoa district: “Identifying the importance of social policy credit capital for people in investing in production and business, every year, the unit coordinates with localities to review and compile loan needs. When capital is allocated, we guide people in completing loan procedures and documents and organize quick and timely disbursement. During the loan support process, we also prioritize poor households, near-poor households, and households with difficult circumstances in remote areas and ethnic minority areas...”
At the same time, the Tuyen Hoa District Branch of the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies coordinated with local authorities to advise people on investing in effective production and business models; and intensified inspection, supervision, and debt collection activities to accelerate capital turnover and create more opportunities for people in need of loans…
From the beginning of 2025 to the present, the Tuyen Hoa District Branch of the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies has disbursed 65.9 billion VND from preferential credit funds to 1,174 households. This includes 20 poor households, 28 near-poor households, and 23 newly escaped-from-poverty households, bringing the total outstanding loan balance to over 841 billion VND.
