To expedite the demolition of temporary and dilapidated houses, Thong Nhat commune has established a Steering Committee and assigned members to directly oversee and support beneficiary families. The commune's Steering Committee meets weekly to assess and monitor progress. For houses currently under construction, the commune People's Committee requires relevant departments to assist families in completing land and site preparation procedures before construction begins.
After review, the number of houses needing demolition in Thong Nhat commune is very large, totaling 62 houses, including 48 new constructions and 14 house repairs (households building new houses will receive 60 million VND in support; those repairing will receive 30 million VND from the state budget). Regarding beneficiaries, 44 households are classified as poor or near-poor; 18 households are affected by natural disasters and climate change.
Ms. Ly Thi Thuy, Secretary of the Party Committee and Head of the Steering Committee for the Elimination of Temporary and Dilapidated Houses in Thong Nhat Commune, stated: The majority of houses needing reconstruction or repair are located in the former Huu Lan Commune, where transportation conditions and family circumstances are difficult. Therefore, the commune's Steering Committee has requested its members assigned to each village and household to uphold a high sense of responsibility, closely monitor each family, and guide the resolution of any difficulties arising during the implementation process.
With the decisive leadership of the commune's Steering Committee and the involvement of the entire political system in mobilizing resources, the progress of eliminating dilapidated houses in the commune has achieved positive results. As of January 16, 2026, 48 houses are under construction. Of these, 38 houses aimed for completion before the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Horse have all been started and are progressing well. Specifically, 10 out of 14 houses undergoing repairs have been completed; 24 new houses have completed over 80% of the work. For the houses aiming for completion before April 30, 2026, all households have prepared sufficient matching resources to start construction after the Lunar New Year holiday of the Year of the Horse 2026.
In his house, which is over 50 square meters and currently under construction, the homeowner, Nguyen Van Ngot from Phai Bay village, happily shared: "During the construction process, my family has also received support from the commune's militia in terms of labor, so the workload is increasing daily. With the current pace of work, my family's house will certainly be completed before the Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026."
Similarly, at the household of Ms. Nguyen Thi Van, residing in Vinh Tien village, the construction of the new house is progressing rapidly. Ms. Van said: The construction area is 56 square meters. In addition to the 60 million VND in government support, the family has also contributed 80 million VND to complete the project. With the current progress, the family plans to hold the housewarming ceremony on February 7, 2026.
During the implementation process, beneficiary households also received support from various units and neighbors. According to statistics from the Commune People's Committee, since the simultaneous commencement of housing projects in December 2025, the commune's militia and residents have provided over 300 man-days of labor to beneficiary households for house construction and moving belongings. The Commune People's Committee also directed specialized departments to assist in completing land procedures and issuing land ownership certificates ("red books") to 48 households with newly built houses, and mobilized machinery from enterprises to prepare the land for housing construction.
With the current progress, the goal of demolishing 62 dilapidated houses before April 30, 2026, in Thong Nhat commune will certainly be achieved on schedule, or even ahead of schedule.
