Speaking to Drive magazine at the launch event of the 2026 Mazda CX-5, Vinesh Bhindi, head of Mazda Australia, said the company's ambition is to offer hybrid versions across all five trim levels of the third-generation CX-5, rather than limiting them to the higher-end models.
A representative from Mazda Australia stated that the new hybrid version will target customers who are shifting towards fuel-efficient vehicles but still desire a familiar driving experience.

Currently, the Mazda CX-5 in Australia starts at AUD 39,990 (approximately VND 732 million), excluding registration fees, for the Pure version with a 2.5L petrol engine and standard all-wheel drive.
Meanwhile, its direct competitor, the Toyota RAV4 – Australia's best-selling SUV – is currently priced from AUD 45,990 (approximately VND 841 million) with the standard hybrid powertrain, while the AWD version costs up to AUD 49,340 (approximately VND 903 million).
Therefore, the Mazda CX-5 could still adjust its price within the range of AUD 6,000-10,000 (approximately VND 109-183 million) to compete with its rival from Toyota.
According to Drive , if the price difference between the petrol and hybrid versions is kept below AUD 5,000 (approximately VND 91 million), the CX-5 could become one of the most competitively priced family hybrid SUVs in Australia.

Compared to some other models, the Subaru Forester has a price difference of approximately 3,000-6,500 AUD (55-119 million VND) between the petrol and hybrid versions. Meanwhile, Kia applies a difference of about 6,000 AUD (110 million VND) between the Sportage hybrid and the petrol engine version.
Mazda says its all-new hybrid powertrain is still under development and is likely to be unveiled by mid-next year. The system will utilize Mazda's own SkyActiv-Z engine, optimized for thermal efficiency and designed to work seamlessly with the high-voltage hybrid platform.
According to previously revealed information, the Mazda CX-5 Hybrid aims for performance comparable to the discontinued turbocharged version, while also offering superior fuel economy compared to the current model.
In Vietnam, the Mazda CX-5 is currently being sold in its older version. The new generation version was previously displayed and is expected to go on sale from November. Based on prices in other Southeast Asian markets, the new CX-5 is priced at approximately 1.1 billion VND (converted to Vietnamese Dong).
