On the morning of February 14th, a ceremony was held at Son Tay High School (Son Tay town, Hanoi ) to announce the decision to reorganize the school into Son Tay Specialized High School.
In a summary report on the project to transform the school into a specialized high school, teacher Pham Thi Huyen, Deputy Principal in charge of Son Tay High School, stated that the school was established in 1959, and the specialized program was established in 1992 with the first three specialized classes: Mathematics, Informatics, and Literature. The specialized program continued until 1996 before being temporarily suspended. In May 2004, the school was allowed to reopen some specialized classes. In recent years, the school's annual size has remained stable with 27 specialized classes and 18 non-specialized classes.
The school's educational quality has improved significantly in the last 10 years, with many students winning medals and awards at the city, national, and international levels.

At the ceremony, the leaders of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training announced and presented Decision No. 265/QD-UBND of the Hanoi People's Committee on the reorganization of Son Tay High School into Son Tay Specialized High School. The decision takes effect from January 15, 2025.
Speaking at the ceremony, Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training Tran The Cuong affirmed that the decision of the Hanoi People's Committee to reorganize Son Tay High School into Son Tay Specialized High School under the Hanoi Department of Education and Training is a significant event, marking the development of the capital's education sector in terms of fundamental and comprehensive reform of education.
Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, Tran The Cuong, requested Son Tay Specialized High School to focus on developing an activity plan that complies with the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training on the organization and operation of specialized high schools; clearly defining objectives and specific solutions to build the school into a leading high-quality educational institution in Hanoi and the whole country.

Mr. Cuong also suggested that Son Tay Specialized High School should effectively manage student recruitment, proactively implement solutions to attract outstanding junior high school students to the school's specialized classes from the 2025-2026 school year; continuously innovate the educational program; and develop and update the educational plan for specialized subjects according to the framework of the Ministry of Education and Training, but with the school's own unique identity and characteristics.
Thus, at this point, Hanoi city has 4 specialized high schools under the direct management of the Department of Education and Training: Hanoi - Amsterdam, Nguyen Hue, Chu Van An, and Son Tay.
