According to the Henley Passport Index 2025 global passport ranking, updated in December, Singapore has the most powerful passport, while Vietnam rose two places from 92nd to 90th.
Passport rankings reflect a citizen's global mobility and the openness of a nation.
Currently, Vietnamese citizens can enter 50 destinations without a visa or by applying for an e-visa, visa on arrival, or ETA (electronic travel permit) in a total of 199 countries and territories.
Destinations that Vietnamese citizens can enter without a visa or with only an e-visa or visa on arrival include ASEAN countries (Thailand, Singapore, Myanmar, Malaysia, Laos, Cambodia, etc.), Bhutan, Chile, and island nations such as the Comoros Islands, Malawi, Maldives, and Madagascar.
The highest ranking Vietnam has ever held in the 19-year history of the Henley Passport Index was 78th in 2006 and 2007.
According to this index, Singapore still holds the position of having the most powerful passport in the world , with its citizens allowed visa-free entry to 193 countries and territories.

The rankings are compiled from proprietary data sources of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) combined with analysis from the Henley & Partners research team.
