In this regard, the Prime Minister requested the Vietnam Expressway Investment and Development Corporation (VEC) to mobilize resources to expand the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway. The State Capital Management Committee at Enterprises was tasked with directing VEC to mobilize resources to quickly implement the expansion of this expressway.

In addition, the Prime Minister also requested the Ministry of Construction to continue coordinating with the Ministry of Transport in inspecting the conditions for acceptance and handover of projects for operation, guiding the source of payment for foreign contractors due to delays in the Ben Luc - Long Thanh project; and to continue strengthening inspection, supervision, and urging localities in the work of publishing construction material prices and construction price indices.
The Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway and the Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway are two key projects in the south, connecting Ho Chi Minh City with the provinces of the Southeast region. According to the road network planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway is planned with a scale of 10 lanes.
Currently, phase 1 of the project, with a scale of 4 lanes, has been invested in and put into operation by VEC in 2016. Since its opening, the volume of traffic on the route has continuously increased (an average of about 10.45% per year). According to calculations, the expressway from Ho Chi Minh City (An Phu interchange) to Long Thanh (interchange with Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway), approximately 26 km long, has exceeded its traffic capacity and has not met the transportation needs. The route frequently experiences serious traffic congestion.
In October 2022, VEC proposed allocating 14,700 billion VND to expand this expressway to 8-10 lanes. The preliminary total investment is 14,780 billion VND (excluding interest during construction), to be implemented from Q4 2022 to Q1 2026.
The Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway is still under construction.
Meanwhile, the Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway is 57.8 km long, passing through Dong Nai, Ho Chi Minh City, and Long An . One end connects to the Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong expressway, and the other end connects to the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway.
Construction began in 2014, with the first kilometers expected to be open to traffic in 2018, but was halted in 2019 due to changes in policies and regulations, resulting in a lack of funding. On May 11th, VEC held a groundbreaking ceremony for construction packages A6-1, A6-2, A6-3, and A6-5. These are four of the five construction packages reorganized from the unfinished work of package A6 (eastern section).
