Tourists experience the automated audio guide system at Thang Long Imperial Citadel.
Visiting the Temple of Literature - National University today, tourists can experience a fully automated process, including purchasing tickets, electronic ticket checking, automated guided tours, or scanning QR codes to learn more about the site. Ms. Nguyen Thu Hang ( Ninh Binh ) said: "My family and several other families wanted to visit the Temple of Literature - National University. I tried researching online and booking electronic tickets; everything was very convenient and quick." This is just one of many tourist destinations in the capital city that have applied digital transformation to their operations, such as the Thang Long Imperial Citadel, Hoa Lo Prison, and Bat Trang pottery village.
In addition, the Hanoi tourism industry has also implemented digital tourism maps in multiple languages. These digital maps display information that attracts tourists and serves the development of smart tourism in Hanoi . Currently, the digital maps have been piloted in Hoan Kiem, Hoang Mai, and Nam Tu Liem districts; and Dong Anh and Thach That districts. Based on this foundation, the Hanoi Department of Tourism will coordinate with local authorities to expand the project throughout the city.
In addition to digital transformation activities that customers can directly experience, digital transformation is also taking place in many other fields. Since the beginning of 2023, the Department of Tourism has deployed and put into operation a database software for the entire tourism industry, including: a database of agriculture and rural areas; a digital database of resources, heritage and tourism products; entertainment and recreation services in the area; travel agencies; tourist accommodation establishments; cultural, tourism and sports events; health and medical care services; tour guides and interpreters; foreign representative offices; tourist transportation means: air, road, rail, and water...
From this platform, localities and businesses can leverage it to develop appropriate tourism development plans. Digital transformation is also being widely implemented in resolving administrative procedures in the tourism sector. According to Dang Huong Giang, Director of the Hanoi Department of Tourism: “Currently, the Hanoi Department of Tourism has registered all 26 administrative procedures on the city's public service portal and is in the process of registering them on the national public service portal. The Department has also submitted to the City People's Committee for approval the restructuring of 26 administrative procedures; digitizing 100% of the department's administrative procedures; and simplifying, decentralizing, and delegating authority for resolving administrative procedures...”
In the near future, the tourism sector is expected to focus on key activities such as: digitizing the information system on tourist areas, destinations, tourism service facilities, and the Hanoi tourism market; promoting digitalization through 360-degree photo interfaces and new technologies at craft villages, historical sites, and cultural heritage sites in the area... The Hanoi Department of Tourism is also developing a convenient and intelligent software system to support management, serve tourists in searching for information, and promote Hanoi tourism. The software will manage the collection and processing of databases for surveying and evaluating the current state of agricultural and rural tourism in the city; and digitize, connect, and integrate tourism data into the general information and management data system according to the guidelines of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
The digital transformation roadmap not only brings direct benefits to tourists but also makes the management and operation of tourism service businesses much more convenient, minimizing travel and procedural issues.
