(GLO)- Faced with the danger of dirty and unsafe food, many consumers do not hesitate to "spend a lot of money" on organic food to improve their health.

Organic food is a term used to describe foods that are grown, handled, and processed in a way that is safe for the environment. For agricultural products, these are products that are grown without the use of artificial chemicals (pesticides, chemical fertilizers, preservatives, etc.). For animal meat, organic foods are not injected with growth hormones, antibiotics, or genetically modified organisms.

According to a survey by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), the cost of growing and caring for organic fruits and vegetables is often 20% higher than that of conventional products.

Ms. Luong Ngoc Quynh (Group 4, Phu Dong Ward, Pleiku City) shared: “Although organic food is more expensive, my family still chooses to buy it because of the product quality and safety for health. For example, ST25 Ong Cua Shrimp Rice is a type of rice grown on shrimp farming areas and costs more than 400,000 VND/5 kg bag, much higher than regular rice. Or Fuji apples are USDA certified so the price is also 2-3 times higher.”

Similarly, Ms. Nguyen Thao Nguyen (alley 84 Chi Lang street, Pleiku city) said: “I usually buy food at supermarkets or clean food stores, except when the family needs products that the supermarket does not have, then I buy at the market. Although I know that the food here is more expensive than in the market, I still accept it in exchange for peace of mind about the origin and food safety.”

Understanding the psychology of consumers, in Pleiku City, in addition to Co.op Mart Supermarket and WinMart Mini Supermarket system, more and more small retail stores specializing in selling organic foods and clean fruits are appearing.

Typical examples include: Van Tri Clean Food Store, Cay Ba Trong, Hoa Qua Sach, Huka Organic Farm, King Fruit... These are stores that often sell products with clear certificates of origin, thus creating trust for consumers.

Ms. Ho Thi Mai - Owner of Hoa Qua Sach Shop (21A Hai Ba Trung) said: “For nearly 10 years now, I have been selling organic and clean fruits. My shop has all kinds of fruits from domestic to imported. Domestic products such as papaya, mango, custard apple, dragon fruit... all have VietGAP certification, with invoices for purchase; imported products such as kiwi, Australian black grapes, Envy apples, Australian finger grapes... all have organic certificates and clear origins.

The price of domestic fruits is usually 15-20 thousand VND/kg higher than regular products; the price of imported fruits depends on the type and season. Although there are products that we sell at higher prices than the market, we always have a fairly stable number of customers because they trust the quality of the products as well as the service attitude.

The demand for organic products has now become a part of modern life, which means that the organic market promises to continue to grow strongly in the future. However, many consumers are still not really confident with the so-called organic, clean, and safe foods that are quite widespread in the market.

Mr. Le Anh Tuan (Group 8, Yen Do Ward, Pleiku City) said: “Consumers also need a basis to ensure that they are actually buying organic products - products that they are willing to pay more for than conventional products without a certificate of origin. This is what organic food stores and businesses need to have to build their own reputation.”
