During his lifetime, President Ho Chi Minh instructed, "Spring is the time for planting trees, making the country ever more vibrant and beautiful." Following his teachings, in the early days of the new spring, the Party Committee, government, and people of all ethnic groups in the province have strived and competed to launch a tree-planting and reforestation movement to bring greenery back to the forests.
On the morning of February 3rd (the 6th day of the first lunar month), the provincial-level tree planting festival was launched in Tien Yen district. Accordingly, provincial leaders, representatives from various departments and agencies, and local people participated in planting over 2,000 trees, primarily large timber trees, on an area of 2 hectares in the community forest of Dong Dinh village, Phong Du commune (Tien Yen district).
In Ba Chẽ district, the Spring Tree Planting Festival of the Year of the Snake (2015) was also launched, mobilizing Party committees, government agencies, departments, organizations, units, businesses, cooperatives, and the people in the area to enthusiastically participate and respond to the Tree Planting Festival in a practical and effective way. Accordingly, on the first day of the campaign, the entire district aimed to plant 3 hectares of green teak trees, with approximately 3,000 trees.
Immediately following the district-level launch program, communes and towns simultaneously organized tree planting campaigns in their respective units on February 4th (the 7th day of the first lunar month). Agencies and units proactively planted green trees and shade trees in their premises, offices, and schools, aiming to plant approximately 16 hectares. This included mobilizing the public to participate in tree planting at the household level through the implementation of large timber forest planting projects, primarily focusing on large timber species such as teak, mahogany, and rosewood.
Mr. Khieu Anh Tu, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ba Che District, said: In 2025, the district has set a plan to plant approximately 5,000 hectares of concentrated forest, including 100 hectares of large timber forest. Immediately after the Tree Planting Festival, the district directed units and localities to continue guiding people and implementing the plan, striving to complete 50% of the set target by the end of the first quarter of 2025.
Mr. Hoang Ngoc Thanh, from Khe Loong Ngoai village (Thanh Son commune, Ba Che district), said: "My family had 10 hectares of acacia trees completely destroyed by typhoon No. 3. Immediately after the typhoon passed, my family proceeded to harvest the trees, clear the undergrowth, and prepare the site and seedlings for reforestation in the spring of 2025. Accordingly, my family has prepared about 40,000 seedlings, including acacia and cinnamon, and we aim to replant the entire area of forest damaged by the typhoon by April 30th."
The Tree Planting Festival has become a major event, a unique cultural tradition of Vietnam that our people have preserved and developed. This year's tree planting and reforestation movement is even more significant as Quang Ninh 's forest cover has been sharply reduced after the impact of Typhoon No. 3 in September 2024. On the very first day of the Lunar New Year, localities and units throughout Quang Ninh province simultaneously launched the Tree Planting Festival, with a total of over 112,000 new trees planted, equivalent to 112 hectares.
Mr. Vu Duy Van, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, said: In 2025, Quang Ninh province strives to plant over 31,847 hectares of concentrated forest, including 2,724 hectares of protective forest and 29,123 hectares of production forest. This is an unprecedented number, 2.4 times higher than the 2024 forest planting target, demonstrating the province's high determination in developing and restoring forestry production after the storm, raising the forest cover rate to over 42%.
