What a shame for Bruno Fernandes!

Michael Owen believes Bruno Fernandes could have been even better if Manchester United had had quality players and a consistent style of play in recent years, allowing them to fully utilize the midfielder's potential.

Bruno Fernandes is close to reaching a historic milestone at Manchester United.

On the night of February 1st, MU defeated Fulham 3-2 in the 24th round of the Premier League. Bruno Fernandes once again proved his importance to Manchester United's playing style, providing two assists.

Fernandes delivered a precise cross into the penalty area for Casemiro to head in the opening goal, followed by an assist for Sesko to seal the 3-2 victory, setting a new personal record and moving him to the top of the Premier League assists chart.

Fernandes has increased his total number of assists in the Premier League this season to 12, his highest achievement in his career in England's top flight. Even more remarkably, there are still 14 rounds of matches remaining in the season.

This means the Portuguese midfielder still has a chance to break his personal record, and even dream of reaching the historic milestone of 20 assists in a single season, an achievement once reached by legends like Kevin De Bruyne or Thierry Henry.

More broadly, the Portuguese midfielder has now scored 103 goals and provided 99 assists in all competitions for the "Red Devils". With just one more assist, Fernandes will reach 100 goals and 100 assists, an extremely rare achievement in the club's history.

To date, only two players have achieved this feat while playing for Manchester United. The first is Ryan Giggs, a legend who spent his entire career at Old Trafford, with 168 goals and 273 assists. The second is Wayne Rooney, the club's greatest goalscorer in history, with 253 goals and 142 assists.

Bruno Fernandes anh 1

Bruno Fernandes remains a major pillar of support for Manchester United.

Bruno's recent form has been truly impressive. He has provided assists in four consecutive Premier League matches and has only failed to contribute to a goal in one of his last seven games.

Michael Owen, the legendary former English football striker, expressed his regret over Bruno Fernandes' performance after the match against Fulham. According to Owen, the Manchester United captain could have reached an even higher level if he had played alongside better players.

Since Carrick took over last month, the "Red Devils" have shown signs of recovery, beating both big rivals Manchester City and Arsenal. The victory against Fulham was MU's third consecutive win.

However, Owen frankly stated that Fernandes is "playing in a team that doesn't match his talent." The former Manchester United star said: "I think Bruno would reach a different level if he had better players and coaches around him. Amorim forcing Bruno to play out of position for over a year has affected him a lot."

Owen's assessment was proven correct in the match against Fulham. Fernandes continued to shine in his preferred number 10 position under Carrick. He provided two assists, helping MU secure a dramatic victory.

Owen praised him, saying, “Fernandes has incredible vision and passing. He timed his passes perfectly, and he also has the ability to score goals – a genius on the pitch.”

Most importantly, Bruno is showing comfort in his preferred position. Since Carrick moved him back to attacking midfield, Bruno has had four consecutive assists. Before the Fulham game, he had already provided two assists in his first two games playing as a number 10 behind Bryan Mbeumo.

Owen's assessment also reflects the harsh reality that Fernandes could have achieved much more success in recent years if MU had improved the quality of their squad and had more consistency in their playing style.
