Tien Giang has planned high-yield, high-quality rice growing areas.

Accordingly, Tien Giang province plans a high-yield, high-quality rice growing area with an area of ​​20,787/42,233 hectares of rice production area in the whole province.

Specifically, Cai Be district is planned to have a high-yield, high-quality rice growing area of ​​580 hectares, Cai Lay district 4,557 hectares, Chau Thanh district 295 hectares, Cai Lay town 2,317 hectares, Tan Phuoc district 5,575 hectares, Go Cong Tay district 4,528 hectares, Go Cong Dong district 2,336 hectares, Go Cong city 599 hectares... Only 3 units, My Tho city, Cho Gao district and Tan Phu Dong district, do not have a planned high-yield, high-quality rice growing area.

The Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Agriculture and Environment (DARD) to coordinate with localities to deploy and guide implementation. The People's Committees of districts, cities and towns deploy and guide the People's Committees of communes, wards and towns to deploy planning for high-yield and high-quality rice growing areas to relevant organizations and individuals.

Tien Giang is focusing on implementing high-tech rice production models.

Currently, Tien Giang province has registered to participate in the Project "Sustainable development of 1 million hectares of high-quality and low-emission rice cultivation associated with green growth in the Mekong Delta by 2030" in Tien Giang province (referred to as the Project) with an area of ​​29,500 hectares. The Project is implemented in 7 districts, towns and cities of the province including: Cai Be, Cai Lay, Tan Phuoc, Go Cong Tay, Go Cong Dong, Cai Lay Town and Go Cong City.

To effectively and timely implement the Project, the province has organized a Conference to implement the Project. At the same time, coordinate with the Agricultural Project Management Board - Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to review and propose the investment portfolio "Infrastructure and technical support project for low-carbon rice production in the Mekong Delta, WB loan, Tien Giang province" based on the allocated capital.

The total proposed capital for the entire project is over 481 billion VND. In addition, the province has organized many training courses with the following contents: Technical process for producing high-quality and low-emission rice; straw management process in the direction of circular agriculture; "1 must 5 reduction" rice production, application of high technology, application of synchronous mechanization, etc.

The Department of Agriculture and Environment of Tien Giang province and the Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam (Agribank) Tien Giang branch held a signing ceremony of a cooperation agreement on providing Agribank products and services to customers under the Project.

In addition, the province also implemented 3 models of "Piloting high-quality rice production, reducing emissions in Tien Giang province" in the 2024-2025 winter-spring crop in Phuoc Trung commune, Go Cong Dong district; Binh Tan commune, Go Cong Tay district; Hau My Bac B commune, Cai Be district with a scale of 51 hectares/48 participating households. According to the assessment of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the application of high-quality, low-emission rice cultivation processes helps reduce pests and diseases, reducing 3 spraying times/crop.

In terms of economic efficiency, the average production cost of the three models was 18.39 million VND/ha, 3.477 million VND/ha lower than the control field outside the model. The average total revenue was 47.565 million VND/ha, profit was 29.175 million VND/ha. The additional profit compared to outside the model was more than 5.5 million VND/ha.
