(ABO) The People's Committee of Tien Giang province has just approved the planning for high-yield, high-quality rice cultivation areas in the province.

Accordingly, Tien Giang province has planned high-yield, high-quality rice growing areas covering 20,787 out of the total rice production area of ​​the province (42,233 hectares).

Specifically, Cai Be district has a planned high-yield, high-quality rice cultivation area of ​​580 hectares, Cai Lay district 4,557 hectares, Chau Thanh district 295 hectares, Cai Lay town 2,317 hectares, Tan Phuoc district 5,575 hectares, Go Cong Tay district 4,528 hectares, Go Cong Dong district 2,336 hectares, Go Cong city 599 hectares… Three other units – My Tho city, Cho Gao district, and Tan Phu Dong district – do not have planned high-yield, high-quality rice cultivation areas.

The Provincial People's Committee assigns the Department of Agriculture and Environment (NN&MT) to take the lead in coordinating with localities to implement and guide the plan. The People's Committees of districts, cities, and towns shall implement and guide the People's Committees of communes, wards, and townships in implementing the high-yield, high-quality rice cultivation area plan to relevant organizations and individuals.

Currently, Tien Giang province has registered to participate in the Project "Sustainable Development of 1 Million Hectares of High-Quality, Low-Emission Rice Cultivation Associated with Green Growth in the Mekong Delta by 2030" in Tien Giang province (hereinafter referred to as the Project) with an area of ​​29,500 hectares. The Project will be implemented in 7 districts, towns, and cities of the province, including: Cai Be, Cai Lay, Tan Phuoc, Go Cong Tay, Go Cong Dong, Cai Lay town, and Go Cong city.

To effectively implement the Project, the province organized a conference to launch the Project. Simultaneously, in coordination with the Agricultural Projects Management Board - Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development , the province reviewed and proposed the investment list for the "Project to Support Infrastructure and Technology for Low-Carbon Rice Production in the Mekong Delta, financed by a World Bank loan, Tien Giang Province" based on the allocated funds.

The total proposed capital for the entire project is over 481 billion VND. In addition, the province has organized numerous training courses on topics such as: technical processes for producing high-quality, low-emission rice; straw management processes in line with circular agriculture; "1 must, 5 reductions" rice production; application of high technology; and synchronized mechanization…

The Department of Agriculture and Environment of Tien Giang province and the Vietnam Agricultural and Rural Development Bank (Agribank) Tien Giang branch held a signing ceremony for a cooperation agreement on providing Agribank products and services to customers under the Project.

In addition, the province is implementing three pilot models of "High-quality rice production with reduced emissions in Tien Giang province" during the 2024-2025 winter-spring crop season in Phuoc Trung commune, Go Cong Dong district; Binh Tan commune, Go Cong Tay district; and Hau My Bac B commune, Cai Be district, covering 51 hectares with 48 participating households. According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, applying high-quality, low-emission rice cultivation processes helps reduce pests and diseases, and reduces the number of sprayings by three times per season.

In terms of economic efficiency, the average production cost of the three models was 18.39 million VND/ha, lower than the control plot outside the model by 3.477 million VND/ha. The average total revenue was 47.565 million VND/ha, and the profit was 29.175 million VND/ha. The additional profit compared to plots outside the model was more than 5.5 million VND/ha.
