In the newly announced list of players called up to the Vietnam U.17 team, players who previously competed in the 2025 U.17 Asian Championship qualifiers continue to receive the trust of coach Cristiano Roland for the training camp in preparation for the 2025 U.17 Asian Championship finals.
Vietnam U.17 squad list
Essentially, the core of the Vietnam U.17 team remains the same players who have proven themselves in the 2025 U.17 Asian Championship qualifiers, as well as those previously called up for training camps. In addition, to increase competition within the Vietnam U.17 team, coach Cristiano Roland has given opportunities to several "newcomers," most notably Thomas Mai Veeren, a Vietnamese-born player currently playing in the Netherlands.
Who is Thomas Mai Veeren, the new addition to the Vietnam U.17 team?
Thomas Mai Veeren, born in 2008 (Vietnamese name: Mai Cong Thanh), has a Dutch father and a Vietnamese mother. Professionally, Thomas is described as being able to play well in multiple midfield positions, including attacking midfielder, central midfielder, and winger. He currently plays for HV Quick in the Netherlands.
In the 2023-2024 season, Thomas played 8 matches, scoring 9 goals and providing 4 assists, even managing a hat-trick. Additionally, Thomas had the opportunity to train with professional teams such as ADO Den Haag and Feyenoord Rotterdam, and was part of the Dutch Football Federation (KNVB) youth teams from 2018 to 2023.

With Vietnamese blood running through his veins, Thomas cherishes the dream of wearing the Vietnamese national team jersey to contribute his talent and help develop football in his country. However, competition at all levels of the national team is always fair. To establish his position, Thomas first needs to convince head coach Cristiano Roland during the upcoming training sessions of the Vietnam U.17 team.
