In the lives of the Khmer people, respected individuals always play a particularly important role. With their exemplary conduct and understanding of customs and traditions, respected individuals are trusted, listened to, and emulated by their community.
Living close to the people and understanding their thoughts and aspirations, the abbots, monks, and priests in Khmer temples contribute to bridging the gap between the Party's will and the people's hearts. With his prestige and responsibility, Venerable Chau Dien – Abbot of Po Thi Vong Chi Mung Temple – actively propagates, explains, and encourages the people to effectively implement the Party's guidelines and the State's policies and laws. At the same time, he participates in mediating conflicts among the people, mobilizing them to develop the economy , build new rural areas, maintain security and order, and preserve the beautiful traditional cultural values of the nation.
For the Khmer people, the pagoda is not only a place of religious activity but also a community cultural center, a place to preserve ethnic identity, educate on morality, and connect generations. Venerable Chau Dien said that whenever there are new policies and guidelines from the Party and State, the pagoda incorporates their dissemination into its activities so that people can easily access and understand them correctly. The pagoda also guides people to focus on economic development, stay away from social vices, and actively participate in community activities. Through these activities, the abbot also understands the circumstances of each household to provide timely encouragement and support.
"The good news is that the material living standards of the people are improving and their awareness is also undergoing many positive changes. From a mentality of waiting and relying on others, many households have proactively sought ways to develop their economy, actively working and producing to rise out of poverty," Venerable Chau Dien shared.
Having been involved with the local community for over 20 years, Mr. Chau Kolle, Head of the Fatherland Front Committee of To Loi Hamlet, has always been trusted and respected by the people. He actively promotes and encourages the people to preserve their ethnic cultural identity, eliminate outdated customs, strictly abide by the Party's guidelines and the State's policies and laws, and participate in maintaining political security, order, and social safety.
"To gain the trust and support of the people, my family and I must first set an example and lead the way in all activities, with the motto 'doing what is right and speaking what is accurate.' When the people are in agreement, preserving and promoting the traditional cultural values of the nation will be more effective," Mr. Chau Kolle shared.
Thanks to the sound policies of the Party and the State, especially the implementation of national target programs, the lives of the Khmer people are increasingly improving. People receive livelihood support, access to capital, science, and technology to develop production, boldly invest in livestock farming, increase income, and gradually stabilize their lives. “The local government is very concerned about the lives of the people through programs supporting loans, training in production techniques, building houses for poor households... People are also more diligent in their work, pay more attention to their children's education, and actively participate in social welfare activities,” said Ms. Néang Ngoi, a resident of Tô Lợi hamlet, happily.
According to Nguyen Thi Phuong Lan, Secretary of the Party Committee of Co To commune, influential individuals have effectively played a pivotal role in disseminating information and mobilizing the Khmer people to implement the Party's guidelines and the State's policies and laws through community activities, traditional festivals, and local events. They also actively participate in maintaining security and order, developing socio-economic conditions, building national unity, and eradicating outdated customs and social evils.
