Citing information from the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the National Power System and Market Operator (NSMO) reported that the weather in northern regions on the evening and night of June 24th remained hot and humid. Although evening temperatures decreased, Hanoi and the delta region experienced nighttime lows ranging from 28 to 30°C. It is projected that during the peak period of 9 PM to 11 PM on June 24th, the national power system's capacity will reach approximately 54,500 MW, with the northern power system expected to continue to experience even higher demand than the afternoon peak, potentially reaching nearly 31,000 MW and setting a new record for 2026.
Previously, according to NSMO, at 1:50 PM on June 24th, the peak electricity consumption nationwide reached approximately 58,456 MW, exceeding the highest level ever recorded at the end of May by 350 MW. Compared to the same period last year, electricity demand at its peak increased by 13.5%.
In the North alone, the highest electricity consumption this afternoon, June 24th, was 29,970 MW, equivalent to the record set at the end of May. This region currently has the highest rate of increase in electricity demand nationwide due to the prolonged heatwave.

To ensure sufficient electricity for household use, the National Power Grid Corporation (NSMO) is maximizing the use of available power sources, increasing hydropower exploitation, and importing electricity.

To ensure sufficient electricity for daily life and production, NSMO stated that it is maximizing the mobilization of available power sources, increasing hydropower exploitation, and importing electricity. The unit is also coordinating with new power plants to conduct trial runs at high capacity during peak energy demand hours.
According to the meteorological agency, the heatwave will continue in the North on June 25th with temperatures generally ranging from 35 to 37 degrees Celsius, and exceeding 37 degrees Celsius in some areas. This means that electricity demand may continue to increase in the coming days.
NSMO recommends that people and businesses use electricity sparingly, turn off appliances when not in use, set air conditioners to 26 degrees Celsius or higher, and reduce lighting. For businesses, shifting electricity consumption activities to off-peak hours (0-6 am) can reduce pressure on the system and optimize production costs.
