| The vast tea-growing region and unique tea culture are advantages that help Thai Nguyen attract international partners to invest and cooperate in the development of the tea industry. |
Opening the way for cooperation with international businesses.
As the "Tea Capital" of Vietnam, with over 22,000 hectares of tea plantations and an annual production of over 275,700 tons of fresh tea leaves, Thai Nguyen has long affirmed its position as a key tea-producing region in the country. However, the added value of the product has not yet matched its potential. The majority of tea is still consumed in its traditional form or as semi-processed raw material, while the demand for deeply processed products such as matcha, instant tea, functional tea, and tea-based beverages is rapidly increasing worldwide .

Based on this reality, Thai Nguyen is shifting from a "product selling" mindset to a "cooperative development of value chains," in which attracting strategic partners with capabilities in technology, finance, and market access is identified as a key solution.
Recent consecutive meetings with Japanese and Korean businesses demonstrate the province's determination to integrate Thai Nguyen tea more deeply into the global value chain.
In June, a series of international business delegations visited Thai Nguyen to explore investment opportunities. Notably, these meetings went beyond trade promotion activities and delved into discussions on developing raw material areas, technology transfer, production standards, and expanding export markets.
During a meeting with Food Force Co., Ltd. (Japan), company representatives stated that the demand for matcha and green tea in the global market is rapidly increasing, while domestic raw material sources are no longer sufficient to meet processing needs.

| The signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between Huong Van Tea Cooperative and Success Making Co., Ltd. (South Korea) opens up opportunities for developing the value chain of Thai Nguyen tea. |
According to Mr. Mori Kazuki, General Director of Food Force Co., Ltd., Vietnam has a huge advantage in terms of tea raw materials, but many products are still exported as raw or semi-processed materials. If it meets standards regarding pesticide residues, heavy metals, quality management, and production processes, Thai Nguyen tea could absolutely become an important raw material for Japan's matcha processing industry.
This is a positive sign, opening up a new direction for the Thai Nguyen tea industry. Instead of mainly consuming unprocessed products with low added value, Thai Nguyen tea has the opportunity to participate more deeply in the global supply chain, becoming a source of raw materials for large processing enterprises, thereby increasing the value per unit area.
The provincial leaders have requested Japanese businesses to survey raw material areas and work directly with cooperatives, enterprises, and research institutions to exchange information on technical standards, market demand, and the potential for technology transfer. The province is committed to creating all favorable conditions for the cooperation to be implemented effectively and sustainably as soon as possible.
In addition to expanding cooperation with Japanese businesses, Thai Nguyen is also actively connecting with Korean businesses. At the end of June, Huong Van Tea Cooperative signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Success Making Co., Ltd. (Korea), opening up opportunities for strategic cooperation in many areas, from product development and technology transfer to trade promotion and expansion into international markets.
According to the agreement, the two parties will cooperate in researching and developing product lines that suit the tastes of Korean consumers; perfecting brand identity systems; applying traceability; and standardizing production processes according to international standards for food quality and safety.
The key highlight of the agreement is not only its focus on product consumption but also on researching and developing raw material areas that meet international standards; applying advanced technology in processing, preservation, and packaging; and simultaneously training human resources, improving management capacity, and promoting digital transformation for cooperatives.

This is also the model of cooperation that the Thai Nguyen tea industry is aiming for: not only buying and selling products but also jointly developing the entire value chain. Besides the signing ceremony, the Vietnam-Korea tea culture seminar also created a forum for businesses from both countries to exchange experiences on preserving tea culture, developing experiential tourism, promoting trade, and advertising Thai Nguyen tea brand to the international market.
For tea cooperatives, the desire is not just to get more orders, but more importantly, to find capable partners for long-term collaboration. Many cooperatives have invested in production according to organic and VietGAP standards, gradually conquering demanding markets. However, to expand raw material areas that meet international standards, invest in deep processing, and build distribution systems abroad, cooperatives still need resources from experienced businesses with established markets.
The province's proactive efforts in connecting Japanese and Korean businesses to survey tea-growing areas and work directly with cooperatives have raised many hopes for tea growers. With strategic partners, cooperatives not only have a stable market but also gain access to modern technology, advanced production standards, and global market consumer trends.
This also serves as a foundation for gradually establishing large-scale raw material areas, meeting the requirements of international importers – a factor considered key to enhancing the export value of Thai Nguyen tea in the new phase.
Opening up new avenues for development.
The continuous influx of international businesses seeking cooperation opportunities in the production, processing, and consumption of tea products shows that Thai Nguyen is innovating its approach to tea industry development. While previously the focus was on supporting production, the province is now shifting strongly towards attracting social resources, especially businesses with strong technological, financial, and market potential, to jointly invest in developing the value chain.
This orientation aligns with the objectives of Resolution No. 11 on developing the tea industry towards a green, modern, and sustainable direction; promoting deep processing, digital transformation, brand building, and expanding export markets.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Loan, Member of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee and Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, emphasized: "Thai Nguyen always welcomes international businesses and investors to cooperate in developing the tea industry. The province prioritizes projects on deep processing, developing raw material areas, technology transfer, and expanding export markets, aiming to build a modern, sustainable, and competitive tea value chain in the global market."
In the context of increasingly fierce competition, proactively seeking strategic partners will not only help Thai Nguyen tea expand its market but also create momentum for comprehensive innovation, from raw material areas and processing technology to brand building. When the province's policies, the potential of the tea-growing region, and resources from international businesses converge, the Thai Nguyen tea industry will have more opportunities to break through, increase added value, and gradually assert its position on the world tea map.
