
On June 17th, in Hanoi , the Hanoi Department of Tourism organized a thematic workshop on developing smart tourism in Hanoi by 2026.
According to Nguyen Tran Quang, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Tourism, digital transformation is becoming an inevitable trend. The Hanoi tourism industry has identified the development of smart tourism as a crucial direction to improve management capacity, innovate promotional activities, enhance service quality, and provide increasingly convenient and personalized experiences for tourists.
The tourism sector in Hanoi will focus on developing a unified, shared tourism database; promoting the digitalization of destinations and applying new technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), big data, and virtual reality; innovating promotion and advertising on digital platforms; deploying platforms to support businesses; and enhancing the digital capacity of human resources.
In fact, the application of technology in tourism has been implemented in Hanoi as well as in Vietnam for many years, but mainly in promotion, sales, and supporting tourists… Meanwhile, the potential for applying digital transformation, especially AI, in tourism is still very large.
Delegates participated in discussions at two sessions: Applying digital solutions in the travel business and Applying AI in optimizing revenue for accommodation establishments.

According to Ha Van Sieu, Deputy Director of the Vietnam National Tourism Administration, digital transformation in tourism needs to be implemented based on practical problems faced by management agencies and businesses, using technology as a tool to improve management efficiency, connect ecosystems, and create new value.
The implementation of Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo on breakthroughs in the development of science, technology, innovation, and national digital transformation needs to be concretized, creating momentum to promote innovation in management models, develop digital platforms, and enhance the competitiveness of tourism. In this, state management agencies play a facilitating, guiding, and supportive role through the construction of digital infrastructure, shared data, and platforms connecting businesses with other businesses, businesses with management agencies, and partners throughout the tourism value chain.
In addition, experts also introduced the latest technological solutions that Vietnam has mastered, which can be applied and exploited in the development of smart tourism. These are suggestions for management agencies and businesses to choose solutions that suit their actual conditions, thereby enhancing the effectiveness of digital transformation in tourism.
