Apple has just announced plans to expand the use of its Clean Energy Saving feature to iPhone and iPad devices displayed in Apple Stores and other retailers across the United States, according to its newly released 2025 Environmental Progress Report.
Specifically, in new documents obtained by MacRumors , Apple states that Clean Energy Saving will be enabled by default on all iPhone and iPad devices displayed in stores in the US to reduce the carbon footprint of these devices.
In addition, to ensure that the display products are always ready for customers to experience, Apple revealed that the devices will automatically resume charging immediately if the battery level drops below 50%.
Clean Energy Saving is a special feature available in iOS 16.1 for users in the US. The purpose of this feature is to reduce carbon emissions on iPhones by optimizing charging times when the power system uses cleaner energy sources.
Initially, the iPhone charges normally before adjusting its charging method based on the user's daily habits. This feature can be turned off if desired.
It's still unclear exactly when this feature will be activated on the display iPhones and iPads. This is just one of many environmental initiatives and milestones Apple has announced ahead of Earth Day on April 22nd.
