Apple has announced plans to expand the use of its Clean Energy Saving feature for iPhone and iPad devices displayed at Apple Stores and other retailers across the United States, according to information in the company's newly released Environmental Progress Report 2025.
Specifically, in a new document obtained by MacRumors , Apple said Clean Energy Saving will be enabled by default on all iPhone and iPad devices displayed in stores in the US to reduce the carbon emissions of these devices.
Additionally, to ensure that the display products are always ready for customers to experience, Apple revealed that the devices will automatically resume charging immediately if the battery drops below 50%.
Clean Energy Saving is a special feature available on iOS 16.1 for users in the US. The purpose of this feature is to reduce carbon emissions on iPhone by optimizing charging time when the electrical system uses cleaner energy sources.
The iPhone will initially charge normally before adjusting the charging pattern based on the user's daily routine. This feature can be turned off if desired.
It’s unclear exactly when the feature will be enabled on the iPhones and iPads on display, but it’s just one of many environmental initiatives and milestones Apple has announced ahead of Earth Day on April 22.
