The South has 2 centrally-governed cities: Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho and 17 provinces: Binh Phuoc, Tay Ninh, Binh Duong, Dong Nai, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Long An, Tien Giang, Ben Tre, Tra Vinh, Vinh Long, Dong Thap, An Giang, Kien Giang, Hau Giang, Soc Trang, Bac Lieu , Ca Mau.

The area of ​​the South is 64,473.1 km2 according to the General Statistics Office in 2023. Of which, Binh Phuoc is the province with the largest area with 6,873.6 km2. Kien Giang is second with 6,352 km2. Dong Nai is third with 5,863.6 km2. Ca Mau is fourth with 5,274.5 km2.
