About 20 km from the center of Van Lang commune, a 2.5m wide, 25cm thick concrete road, sturdy and winding, follows the mountain's contours like a giant python. Crossing many steep passes, it was built a few years ago as part of a special project called 2037 by Thai Nguyen province, investing in the Ten hamlet, home to 150 H'Mong ethnic minority households. Located at the highest point in the commune, it's often referred to by the people of Van Lang as the "high mountain hamlet of Ten."
The people of Tèn village live far from the commune center and urban areas; they have limited arable land, and their production methods are primarily subsistence-based. Their educational and awareness levels are uneven, and they lack opportunities for commercial production. Notably, some villagers are not diligent in their work, their houses are dilapidated, and their living conditions are backward. The number of households that have escaped poverty can be counted on the fingers of one hand.
Not far from the village of Tèn is the village of Liên Phương, where 170 households of the H'Mông ethnic group are in a similar situation.
To help the people of the two aforementioned hamlets improve their lives, the Secretary of the Dong Hy District Party Committee, Nguyen Van Ngoc, said: Recently, the Standing Committee and the Executive Committee of the District Party Committee have directed the concentration of resources from the budget, national target programs, and social mobilization of over one billion VND; the Command of Military Region 1 mobilized nearly 100 officers and soldiers to assist the people for about 20 days. The district sent officials from various departments, agencies, and mass organizations to Ten hamlet and Lien Phuong hamlet to help households repair and reinforce houses and build roads. From social mobilization, Dong Hy district purchased roofing sheets, cement, and sand, while the soldiers helped the people repair their houses.
Mr. Duong Van Minh from Ten hamlet shared: “Due to difficult family circumstances and my advanced age, my family has lived in a makeshift house with an uneven floor and yard for many years. In recent days, despite the unpredictable weather, the soldiers, with their spirit of 'overcoming the sun and conquering the rain,' even when their clothes were soaked with sweat and rainwater, still diligently helped my family repair the roof, lay the floor, and clean up the yard. My family is deeply moved and grateful.”
Over the past few days, officers and soldiers of Brigade 601, Brigade 575, and the General Staff of Military Region 1 have helped 35 families in the two hamlets of Ten and Lien Phuong replace roofs, lay floors and courtyards, and reinforce walls to make them clean, beautiful, and sturdy. No family is living in temporary houses anymore, making the lives of the people more secure and civilized.
A 3-meter wide, 25-centimeter thick concrete road encircling the village of Tèn has also just been completed by the army, and some branch roads leading to people's houses have been paved, making travel easier for the residents.
The soldiers used explosives to blast rocks, and employed excavators and manual labor to build and pave a 1.2 km long, 3 m wide road from Mr. Ngo Van Khinh's family to the Bo Chinh ginseng growing area, bringing great joy and excitement to the villagers.
Hoang Xuan Truong, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Committee of Van Lang commune, happily stated: "In the past, some people have collaborated in growing Bo Chinh ginseng, with businesses guaranteeing the purchase of all the stems, flowers, leaves, and roots at high prices, bringing considerable income to growers. The soldiers' assistance in opening a new road into this large area will contribute to exploiting the potential, promoting the development of Bo Chinh ginseng cultivation, expanding the cultivation of this medicinal herb, opening up new and sustainable livelihoods, and helping the H'Mong people in Ten village escape poverty sustainably."
During the days when officers and soldiers of Brigades 601 and 575 and the General Staff of Military Region 1 were among the people, working together, overcoming harsh weather conditions and difficulties; always upholding the spirit of serving the people to help the locality expand and renovate roads, help households repair houses, carry out civilian work, and encourage people to enthusiastically produce and build a better life, the local people admired the fine qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers.
In response, the local people actively participated in activities with the soldiers; bringing drinking water, food, and supplies to support and support the soldiers, further strengthening the bond between the military and the people.
Village head Vuong Van Chinh of Ten hamlet shared: “In the past few days, the soldiers of Military Region 1 have worked tirelessly, regardless of the weather, to help the people reinforce and demolish temporary houses, repair and build new roads in Ten hamlet and Lien Phuong hamlet, making the atmosphere in the villages more vibrant and bustling. The people are grateful to the soldiers of Uncle Ho's army and the local Party committee and government for their care and assistance. This contributes to strengthening the solidarity between the military and the people; and consolidating the people's trust in the Party, the State, and the local Party committee and government.”
