'Bridge' brings the law closer to the people.

One day in mid-April 2026, the atmosphere at the Huong Dinh residential community center (Van Xuan ward, Thai Nguyen province) became more lively than usual. It wasn't a regular community meeting, but rather a gathering between residents, legal aid assistants, and lawyers from the Thai Nguyen Provincial State Legal Aid Center.

Officials from the Provincial State Legal Aid Center answered questions and guided people on how to fill out legal aid request forms at a media conference.

At this free legal aid and consultation session, people not only learned about legal policies and regulations, but also had their seemingly intractable questions about land, inheritance, and policies thoroughly answered.

Early in the morning, Mr. Nguyen Van Bang, head of the Huong Dinh neighborhood group, was already at the community center, busily checking the sound equipment and arranging seating for the residents.

Upon receiving information about the mobile legal aid and consultation conference, Mr. Nguyen Van Bang informed the local people through the public address system, the group's Zalo group, and by making direct phone calls to some specific cases.

Sharing with us, Mr. Nguyen Van Bang said: "At the grassroots level, we often have to deal with small conflicts among the people, mainly disputes over land boundaries or questions about the division of inherited property."

"We wanted to resolve the conflict, but our legal knowledge was limited, so we mainly spoke based on our feelings. Today, the legal aid team came to our area, and not only were the people happy, but we also learned many skills in resolving situations and how to refer to the law in a way that the people understand and trust," added Mr. Nguyen Van Bang.

At the conference, legal aid assistants disseminated the core contents of the Legal Aid Law and the groups eligible for free services, such as war veterans, poor households, the elderly, people with disabilities, and children. Legal leaflets with vivid illustrations were distributed to each citizen, making the dry legal provisions more accessible and easy to understand.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan, residing in Huong Dinh residential area, said: "This conference is practical and beneficial for us. I myself am a disabled person and am receiving government assistance, but through this conference I learned about other vulnerable groups who are eligible for government policies, and how to prepare the necessary documents to receive these benefits."

A legal aid session was held at the Huong Dinh residential area cultural center, Van Xuan ward.

In addition, legal questions arising in daily life, such as land disputes and inheritance matters, are enthusiastically answered and guided by legal aid assistants and lawyers. Anyone needing private consultation or legal aid also receives specific guidance.

The consultation session went beyond simply reading documents; the legal aid assistants dedicated a significant amount of time to direct dialogue. Many real-life situations regarding domestic violence and social welfare benefits for people with disabilities were discussed.

This activity also aims to enhance the capacity of grassroots officials and mediators. When legal knowledge is widely disseminated, conflicts will be resolved definitively from the outset, contributing to maintaining security and order in the locality.

Ms. Dao Thu Thuy, Deputy Head of the Professional Affairs Department ( Thai Nguyen Provincial State Legal Aid Center), said: "Our goal when organizing legal counseling sessions and legal aid communication in hamlets and residential areas is to bring the law closer to the people in the most practical and effective way."

In practice, many people who are eligible for free legal aid are still unaware of this service and have an incomplete understanding of their rights.

Furthermore, this not only helps the Provincial State Legal Aid Center proactively reach the right people in need of legal aid, but also contributes to raising legal awareness in the community, instead of passively waiting for people to seek help.

During the meeting, the Center received several requests for legal advice, focusing mainly on land issues and policies. These are issues closely related to daily life and are of great concern to many people.

The meeting concluded, but some residents lingered to ask further questions to the officials. The sight of people leaving with legal documents in hand and relieved smiles showed the success of the outreach event.

Providing free legal aid to local communities is not only a humane policy but also a crucial bridge to ensure that true justice is present in every home and street corner throughout the province.
