A special love for the sea.

QTO - Nguyen Van Huan (born in 1990), from Nhan Nam village, Nam Trach commune, has a special love for the sea. Because of this, after many years of wandering and working abroad, he always cherished the dream of returning to his hometown to start a business in Nhan Trach, the fishing village where he was born and raised.

The dream of getting rich from a fishing village.

In late March, despite being busy with Youth Union activities and rushing to complete the construction of his homestay in time for the upcoming April 30th holiday, Nguyen Van Huan still took the time to share about his activities in protecting the marine environment and the process of nurturing his startup project based on marine tourism .

Huân said that after graduating from a university program specializing in fisheries, he went to the Mekong Delta provinces to look for work. After two years, he decided to leave his hometown and go to the distant country of South Korea to find work with the hope of accumulating enough capital to return home and start his own business.

Huân shared: “The city where I work is Tongyeong, a very famous coastal city for tourism in South Korea. There are many beautiful small fishing villages there. Every weekend, many tourists come here to relax and experience the services. Taking advantage of this, many people have built homestays for tourists and have been successful.”

Huân realized that Nhân Trạch fishing village also possessed unique beauty, no less impressive than other tourist fishing villages. From then on, Huân nurtured the dream of working harder to save up funds to start a small-scale tourism business in his hometown. Despite being away from home for quite some time, upon his return, Nhân Trạch fishing village still retained its pristine natural beauty.

That's what motivated Huan to build his homestay. Huan said that Nhan Trach fishing village is about 10km from Dong Hoi. Tourists visiting Dong Hoi all want to visit the fishing village and experience the delicious local dishes. And especially, they want to experience the Nhan Trach fish market from 3-6 am.

However, due to the limited number of accommodations here, tourists have to wake up very early to travel by car to Nhan Trach fishing village. Building homestays will help tourists avoid the hassle of traveling long distances and allow them to immerse themselves in the lifestyle and experience the gentle, friendly nature of the local fishermen.

“Taking advantage of the old house near the sea in Nhan Nam village, I invested in renovating it into a small homestay with full amenities, while still preserving the unique characteristics of the seaside village. The project is in the process of completion and is expected to be operational before April 30th,” Huân said.

"Nhan Trach Blue Sea"

That's the name of the club that Nguyen Van Huan initiated to spread environmental awareness among young people in the village. Every weekend, the villagers see Huan and the young people in the Nhan Trach Green Sea Club participating in garbage collection. What's special about the club is that, in addition to young members, there are also younger members and even older people.

Huân shared: "The Nhân Trạch fishing village was once known as a beautiful and peaceful seaside village. However, due to the rapid pace of urbanization, in recent years, household waste has increased significantly. Garbage spills onto the beach. In addition, a large amount of waste from the sea, including buoys, plastic bags, and fishing nets, also poses a risk of pollution to the Nhân Trạch sea area. Waste is everywhere, while the Nhân Trạch fishing village receives a considerable number of tourists every day."

To protect the sea from the risk of waste pollution and create an image of a beautiful, clean fishing village in the eyes of tourists, Nhan took the initiative to call on young people in the village to join the Nhan Trach Green Sea Club. Initially, only a few people joined. Gradually, more people saw this as a good and meaningful activity and joined in larger numbers. From 4-5 members, the club now has 20 active and regular members.

“Nguyen Van Huan is the Secretary of the Youth Union branch in Nhan Hai village, and has made many positive contributions to marine environmental protection activities. Besides establishing the Nhan Trach Green Sea Club, Huan also participated in raising 200 million VND from benevolent individuals to complete the lighting project for the Nhan Trach coastal road. This is a meaningful activity that not only contributes to building the homeland but also helps create a clean, beautiful, and well-maintained landscape in the eyes of tourists,” said Duong Thi Huong Giang, Secretary of the Nam Trach Commune Youth Union.

During the garbage collection process, children as young as 7-8 years old also volunteered to participate. Notably, the group includes Ms. Nguyen Thi Dinh, who is over 60 years old and is an active and enthusiastic member of the club. Ms. Dinh shared: "I joined the club with the desire to contribute alongside the children in collecting garbage, cleaning the beach, and spreading that awareness to the villagers to protect the environment."

These days, the sands at Nhan Trach beach are whiter and cleaner. The road leading to the beach has been illuminated and is awash in the red of flags. Everything seems more orderly and clean, in preparation for the new tourist season.

Sharing his plans for the future, Huân confided that since the Nhân Trạch Green Sea Club was only established at the end of 2025, there are still many plans for the club. He hopes that, with the strong spread of meaningful environmental protection activities, the group will attract more members. At that time, Nhân Trạch Green Sea will proceed with collecting garbage at fishing ports, sand dunes, and Nhân Trạch market, areas where pollution is becoming increasingly serious.
