On the morning of August 25th, Nha Trang University held a graduation ceremony and awarded degrees to 92 new doctoral and master's graduates.
He previously held university degrees in architecture, law, accounting, English language, etc.
At the graduation ceremony, among the young graduates, there was a 74-year-old student, Mr. Nguyen Anh (from Nha Trang City). With a radiant expression as he held his Master of Business Administration degree, Mr. Anh shared: “I am so happy to be here today. After so many days of hard work, research, and studying, I have finally fulfilled my dream.”

Mr. Anh, formerly a construction supervision architect, retired and stayed home to help his wife with her business. However, with his thirst for knowledge, he decided to apply for a master's program at Nha Trang University. "Initially, many people said that at my age I should stay home and rest instead of studying, but my wife and children fully supported me. I'm studying to gain more knowledge, regardless of age, and also to be a role model for my children and grandchildren," Mr. Anh happily said.
Returning to the lecture hall, age might seem like a significant pressure, but for Mr. Anh, it wasn't too difficult because he had studied and obtained many different degrees. In his youth, he graduated from the Ho Chi Minh City University of Architecture, then worked for various organizations. From the time he started working until his retirement, he continued his studies through distance learning, graduating in accounting from Tra Vinh University, and then in law from Vinh University. Most recently, in 2023, he also earned a Bachelor's degree in English from Hue University. In addition, Mr. Anh completed a lawyer training program organized by the Judicial Academy ( Ministry of Justice ). As he shared, all the degrees he obtained were simply to enhance his knowledge.
I'm dedicating my master's degree to my wife.
Mr. Anh chose to defend his master's thesis on "Factors Affecting the Intention to Consume Functional Foods Among the Elderly in Nha Trang City, Khanh Hoa Province." According to Mr. Anh, the reason for choosing this topic was his own health issues and his frequent use of functional foods. Furthermore, many elderly people today consume a large quantity of these products. To complete the thesis, he had to gather a lot of information from the internet and conduct further research in practice. "Fortunately, I successfully defended my thesis; all five members of the evaluation committee agreed," he said.
On the day he received his master's degree, he felt very happy, but he also couldn't hide his sadness because his beloved wife, his companion throughout his long journey, had passed away just two months ago. "My wife always took care of everything at home so I could focus on my studies. Her passing has left me feeling empty and very sad. Now I'm all alone because my children have all moved out. I dedicate this degree to my beloved wife," Mr. Ánh shared emotionally.
Mr. Anh said that his plan is to pursue a doctorate in the near future. "As long as I have my health and mental clarity, I will continue to study," he said.

Representatives from Nha Trang University stated that Mr. Nguyen Anh is the oldest person to ever study and graduate with a master's degree at the university. He will be an inspiration and role model for young people in the spirit of continuous learning.
Associate Professor Dr. Le Kim Long, Deputy Head of the Economics Department at Nha Trang University, commented that Mr. Anh, despite his age, is very diligent, hardworking, and eager to learn. This proves that age is not a barrier to learning and acquiring knowledge.
Nha Trang University currently offers 19 master's degree programs and 11 doctoral degree programs. As of August 20, 2024, the university has graduated and awarded degrees to 114 doctoral graduates and 4,147 master's graduates.
At the graduation ceremony on the morning of August 25th, six doctoral students in the fields of aquaculture, seafood processing technology, post-harvest technology, and fisheries were awarded their PhDs; and 86 master's students received their degrees in the following specialties: biotechnology, aquaculture, food technology, information technology, mechanical engineering (thermal and refrigeration engineering), development economics, economic management, business administration, tourism and travel service management, and accounting.
