Since the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, which led to the Israel-Hamas war, Islamophobia has resurfaced with alarming intensity in many countries, particularly in the United States.
On March 15, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution on measures to combat Islamophobia. This document specifically condemns the incitement of discrimination, hostility, or violence against Muslims, as evidenced by the increasing number of incidents of blasphemy against the Quran, attacks on mosques, and acts of religious intolerance, hatred, and violence against Muslims. The resolution calls on UN member states to take all necessary measures to combat religious intolerance, prejudice, hatred, incitement to violence, and violence against people for reasons of their religion or belief.
The resolution calls on UN member states and all stakeholders to promote dialogue among religions, cultures and civilizations, respect and accept religious and cultural differences and diversity...; it requests the UN Secretary-General to appoint a UN Special Envoy on combating Islamophobia and to report to the UN General Assembly at its next session on the implementation of this resolution.

In a statement released by the White House on International Day Against Islamophobia (March 15), US President Joe Biden called for the elimination of hatred and violence against Muslims and for the creation of a world of religious freedom and safety for all people.
President Biden emphasized that many Muslims still suffer from unfounded fear, blatant discrimination, harassment, and violence in their daily lives. According to Biden, the U.S. is currently drafting its first national strategy to combat religious bias and discrimination. The strategy aims to mobilize societal efforts to combat all forms of hatred, discrimination, and prejudice against Muslim communities, Sikh communities in South Asia, and Arab Americans; and to raise awareness of the invaluable heritage and contributions of the Muslim community to America.
