General Secretary To Lam: Innovation and digital transformation in schools.

(Dan Tri Newspaper) - The General Secretary stated that the Party's goal is to build a new, comprehensive education system that is on par with the world's standards but preserves Vietnamese cultural identity.

On the afternoon of May 14th, in Hanoi, General Secretary To Lam and the Central Committee delegation visited and encouraged the capital's education and training sector, and spoke with teachers and students at Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted and Cau Giay Junior High School.

Speaking with teachers and students at the schools, General Secretary To Lam expressed his pleasure at visiting two of Hanoi 's leading high-quality educational institutions.

The General Secretary assessed that Hanoi has the largest scale of general education in the country. In recent years, the capital's education system has achieved many remarkable results. Infrastructure, equipment, and the application of information technology to support teaching and learning in schools continue to lead the way in standardization, synchronization, and modernization.

The quality of teachers and educational administrators has improved; mass education is stable and developing; and advanced education leads the country in national student competitions and regional and international Olympiads.

The application of information technology has seen many positive developments, especially the investment in STEM education - a crucial, interdisciplinary field integrating science, technology, engineering, and mathematics - which is evidence of the innovative thinking, long-term vision, and determination to integrate of Hanoi in particular, and the national education sector in general.

Acknowledging the quality of education and training at the two schools, the General Secretary stated that the achievements of the capital's education sector are partly due to the contributions of these two schools, which embody the intellect, efforts, and aspirations of generations of students and teachers. Both schools have consistently adhered to the motto "In-depth training - Comprehensive education - Pioneering innovation," constantly innovating and updating with international educational advancements, gradually improving the quality of teaching and learning, and have consistently held the title of exemplary advanced school for many years, with a strong tradition of excellent teaching and learning.

The students' achievements are outstanding in many areas. Both schools have focused on developing STEM education, improving the quality of training in science and technology fields, and meeting the requirements of integration and development.

The General Secretary affirmed that this visit to the school was a "field survey" to listen to teachers and students present their suggestions, proposals, and teaching and learning methods aimed at training students to become outstanding citizens in terms of character, intellect, and talent; effectively implementing advanced teaching methods; high-quality educational activities; creating conditions for students to conduct scientific research, create technical innovations, and use foreign languages ​​in communication... to identify and educate students with exceptional intelligence and talent to nurture talent for the country, creating a strong resource for the development of the capital in particular and the country in general; and to gain more practical experience to supplement the draft resolution of the Politburo on educational reform in the new era.

The General Secretary stated that the Party's goal is to build a new, comprehensive education system that is on par with the world while preserving Vietnamese cultural identity; to cultivate a generation of young people who are not only intellectually outstanding but also physically superior, rich in cultural identity, capable of competing and standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the world's leading nations, and affirming the country's position on the international stage.

The education system must undergo profound reforms, focusing on developing creative skills, STEM, foreign languages, digital skills, and modern technology. Intellectual education should go hand in hand with cultural, moral, aesthetic, and health education to cultivate well-rounded individuals.

Emphasizing the goal of promoting science and technology training and digital transformation in schools, the General Secretary stated that the commissioning of modern STEM classrooms at the two schools is not only a gift of infrastructure but also a strong commitment from the Party and the State to investing in the future, unleashing creative potential, and nurturing a passion for science and technology in the young generation of Vietnam. The General Secretary hoped that students would develop a spirit of self-learning, proactively research, and apply their knowledge to real-life situations, becoming intelligent, capable, and responsible citizens who contribute to the reform of education and training and the strategic goals of national development.

Acknowledging and commending the efforts of the staff, teachers, and educational management at all levels in the capital, the General Secretary requested that Party committees, governments, the education sector in the capital, mass organizations, and the entire society continue to modernize and improve the quality of education and training, narrowing the gap between "top" schools and schools in central areas and those in remote areas; paying particular attention to reducing pressure on students, strengthening teaching in culture and arts to ensure students' comprehensive development; and researching policies to support lunch for primary and secondary school students.

The General Secretary noted that Hanoi has effectively implemented Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW dated December 22, 2024, of the Politburo on breakthroughs in the development of science, technology, innovation, and national digital transformation; paying attention to, investing in, and creating more favorable conditions for the development of the education sector, especially promoting innovative education, STEM education, and digital transformation in schools; and paying attention to students from disadvantaged backgrounds with the motto "Under any circumstances, no student should be left behind."

On this occasion, General Secretary To Lam presented Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted and Cau Giay Junior High School with 100 scholarships for outstanding students each, a STEM education practice room, and planted commemorative trees at the schools.
