General Secretary To Lam: Innovation and digital transformation in schools

(Dan Tri) - The General Secretary said that the Party's goal is to build a new, comprehensive education system that is on par with the world but still preserves Vietnamese cultural identity.

On the afternoon of May 14, in Hanoi, General Secretary To Lam and the Central Working Delegation visited and encouraged the education and training sector of the capital, and talked with teachers and students of Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted and Cau Giay Middle School.

Talking to teachers and students of the schools, General Secretary To Lam expressed his joy at visiting two of the top high-quality educational institutions in Hanoi.

The General Secretary assessed that Hanoi is the locality with the largest scale of general education in the country. In recent years, the capital's education system has achieved many remarkable results. Facilities, equipment, and application of information technology to serve teaching and learning in schools continue to be at the forefront in the direction of standardization, synchronization, and modernization.

The quality of teachers and educational managers has been improved; mass education has been stable and developed; key education has led the country in national excellent student competitions and regional and international Olympic competitions.

The application of information technology has made many improvements, especially the investment in STEM education - an important, interdisciplinary field integrating science, technology, engineering and mathematics - is a testament to the innovative thinking, long-term vision and determination to integrate of Hanoi in particular, and of the country's education sector in general.

Recognizing the quality of education and training of the two schools, the General Secretary said that the capital's education sector has achieved the above achievements, with a certain contribution from the two schools, where the intelligence, efforts and aspirations of generations of students and teachers converge. The two schools have always adhered to the motto "Intensive training - Comprehensive education - Pioneering creativity", constantly innovating, updating international educational advances, gradually improving the quality of teaching and learning, for many consecutive years holding the title of Typical Advanced School, with a movement of good teaching and good learning.

Students’ achievements are outstanding in many areas. The two schools have focused on developing STEM education, improving the quality of training in the fields of science and technology, meeting the requirements of integration and development.

The General Secretary affirmed that this visit to the school was like a "field survey trip" to listen to teachers and students present recommendations, proposals, and teaching and learning measures to reach the goal of training students to become excellent citizens in both Mind, Intelligence, and Talent; effectively implementing advanced teaching methods; high-quality educational activities; creating conditions for students to conduct scientific research, create technical innovations, use foreign languages ​​in communication... discovering and educating students with intelligence and outstanding talents to nurture talents for the country, creating a strong resource for the development of the capital in particular and the country in general; gaining additional practice to supplement the draft resolution of the Politburo on educational innovation in the new period.

The General Secretary said that the Party's goal is to build a new, comprehensive education system that is on par with the world but still retains the Vietnamese cultural identity; to have a young generation that is not only excellent in intelligence but also physically superior, rich in cultural identity, capable of competing and standing shoulder to shoulder with the world powers, affirming the country's position in the international arena.

The education system must be extensively reformed, focusing on developing creative skills, STEM, foreign languages, digital skills and modern technology. Intellectual education must go hand in hand with cultural, ethical, aesthetic and health education to form well-rounded individuals.

Emphasizing the goal of promoting science and technology training and digital transformation in schools, the General Secretary stated that the use of modern STEM classrooms in the two schools is not only a gift of facilities, but also a strong commitment of the Party and State in investing in the future, awakening creative potential, and nurturing passion for science and technology in the young generation of Vietnam. The General Secretary hopes that students will promote the spirit of self-study, proactive research, and application of knowledge to real life, becoming intelligent, courageous, and responsible citizens, contributing to the cause of educational innovation and the strategic goals of national development.

Recognizing and praising the efforts of the staff, teachers, and educational managers at all levels in the capital, the General Secretary requested Party committees at all levels, authorities, the capital's education sector, mass organizations, and the entire society to continue to modernize and improve the quality of education and training, narrow the gap between "key" schools, schools in the central area, and schools in remote areas; pay special attention to reducing pressure on students, enhancing teaching about culture and arts to ensure students' comprehensive development; and research policies to support lunch for primary and secondary school students.

The General Secretary noted that Hanoi effectively implemented Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW dated December 22, 2024 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation and national digital transformation, paying attention to, investing in, and creating more favorable conditions for the development of the education sector, especially promoting innovative education, STEM education and digital transformation in schools; caring for students in difficult circumstances with the motto "In any circumstances, no student is left behind".

On this occasion, General Secretary To Lam presented 100 scholarships to outstanding students at Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted and Cau Giay Middle School, each school, and a STEM education practice room, and planted souvenir trees at the schools.
