Iran Press reported on July 9th that this was the first visit by an Iranian president to the African continent in 11 years. The purpose of the three-day trip was to strengthen political and trade cooperation with African nations.
The agenda for the visit will include bilateral meetings with the Presidents of Kenya, Uganda, and Zimbabwe, as well as joint sessions with high-level delegations from the host countries, where a series of cooperation agreements are expected to be signed.
President Raisi will also participate in meetings with business leaders and economic officials from Iran and host countries, with the aim of diversifying Iran's export markets and promoting trade cooperation with foreign countries.
In line with the Iranian government 's economic attraction policy, the visits aim to strengthen Iran's presence in Africa's $600 billion economy.
According to the Tasnim news agency, after taking office in August 2021, President Raisi implemented a new foreign policy directed towards neighboring countries, Muslim nations, Asian countries, and members of the Non-Aligned Movement.
In comments made in early 2022, Raisi described the plan to establish and strengthen relations with African nations as a priority in Tehran's foreign policy. Iran seeks to enhance ties with African countries in all areas.
