This visit to Pakistan marks Iranian President Pezeshkian's first foreign trip since the US and Israel launched their attack on Iran on February 28.
Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar welcomed the Iranian President at a military base near the capital Islamabad on June 23.
During his one-day visit to Pakistan, President Pezeshkian, who led a delegation of Iranian ministers and senior officials, held talks with Prime Minister Sharif. He is also expected to hold talks with President Zardari.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who had previously visited Oman, flew to Pakistan from Oman that same day and joined the high-level Iranian delegation.
The Iranian side is expected to hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Sharif, followed by a meeting at the delegation level between the two sides.
According to the Pakistani Foreign Ministry, Senate President Yousaf Raza Gilani, Parliament Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will also meet with the Iranian leader.
"During the visit to Pakistan, the two sides will comprehensively review bilateral relations and explore new avenues to further enhance cooperation across various fields, including trade, energy, border security, people-to-people exchanges, and regional connectivity," the Pakistani Foreign Ministry said in a statement on June 22.

Pezeshkian's visit to Pakistan followed the first round of talks between the US and Iran. These talks, aimed at ending the war with Iran, were held in the Swiss city of Bürgenstock, mediated by Pakistan and Qatar.
Under the agreement, the US will release $12 billion in frozen Iranian assets. The US has announced a temporary easing of international sanctions against Iran, allowing it to sell oil and petrochemical products until August 21. The negotiations concluded with a 60-day roadmap toward a final agreement.
With this visit, Iran wishes to express its gratitude for Pakistan's role in mediating the Islamabad Memorandum – signed on June 18th between US President Donald Trump and President Pezeshkian. Pakistani Prime Minister Sharif signed the document as a mediator.
The Islamabad Memorandum initiated the formal diplomatic process that took place in Switzerland.
"The visit will also provide an important opportunity to discuss ongoing diplomatic activities following the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum, as well as regional and international developments of mutual concern," the Pakistani Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
This is Pezeshkian's second visit to Pakistan as President of Iran. His first visit took place in August 2025, a few days after the 12-day Iran-Israel war broke out, and was also his first foreign trip since that conflict.
