The silhouette of a mysterious SUV appeared on the display screen during the launch of the new generation Alphard and Vellfire on June 21st.
At the event, Simon Humphries, Toyota's brand director, said a few words about the Century SUV, stating, "Later this year, I hope to have the opportunity to share more about Toyota's new series. It could be a significant step in our mission to change the future of automobiles."
The new SUV from the Japanese manufacturer is positioned above the Toyota Land Cruiser, combining technology and luxury at a higher level.
The image reveals the distinctive design of an SUV, with body lines similar to the Century sedan. The dimensions of the SUV are said to be 5,200 mm long, 1,950 mm wide, 1,750 mm high, and a wheelbase of 3,000 mm.
However, despite being positioned above the Land Cruiser, the Century SUV only has two rows of seats to optimize comfort for rear passengers. It is currently unclear whether the Century SUV will use the platform from the Lexus LS or the Toyota Grand Highlander.
Earlier this year, there were reports that Toyota was developing a new SUV and expected to launch it sometime this year. The Toyota Century, often considered the Rolls-Royce of Japan, boasts a decades-long history, blending tradition and modernity, with virtually no changes to its original design, and is not for everyone. The SUV is expected to be priced between $76,000 and $114,000, comparable to a new Lexus LX 600.
