On July 30th, the Vietnam National Petroleum Group ( Petrolimex ) officially began piloting the sale of E10 gasoline at some of its distribution outlets in Ho Chi Minh City (formerly). This pilot sale was launched two days earlier than initially planned.
At the Petrolimex gas station at the corner of Hai Ba Trung and Tran Cao Van streets (Da Kao ward), several customers were observed filling up with E10 gasoline.
The Petrolimex store at the corner of Nguyen Thi Minh Khai and Pasteur streets also sells this type of biofuel. Other stores on Ly Thuong Kiet and Vo Thi Sau streets also attract many customers interested in learning more about it.

Staff at gas stations provide thorough consultations and ask for customers' opinions before selling fuel. Some stations even install information boards about E10 gasoline and use loudspeakers to promote the environmental benefits of this type of fuel.
The price of E10 gasoline on July 30th was 19,490 VND/liter, which is about 540 VND/liter lower than RON95 gasoline.
Mr. Nguyen Van Hung, a ride-hailing driver residing in Xuan Hoa ward (Ho Chi Minh City), said that he used to regularly fill up with E5 gasoline, but now he is concerned about fuel efficiency and engine durability when using E10 gasoline.
"I just tried this type of gasoline because I found the price competitive and it's good for the environment," said Mr. Hung.
According to Mr. Tran Ngoc Nam, Deputy General Director of Petrolimex, the pilot program for selling E10 gasoline aims to assess market reaction, consumer behavior, and the technical capabilities of the distribution system.

“The E10 gasoline business requires serious preparation in terms of infrastructure, technology, specialized storage tanks for fuel ethanol, and close coordination from refineries. Therefore, Petrolimex proposes that the Ministry of Industry and Trade soon issue directives on the implementation schedule, so that key traders can proactively invest and convert their technical systems. We also propose adjusting some technical standards of the current Vietnamese standard to align with the mineral gasoline sources on the international market and to be consistent with technical standards in the region,” Mr. Tran Ngoc Nam added.
During the pilot phase, the Ministry of Industry and Trade designated the Vietnam Oil Corporation (PVOIL) to sell E10 gasoline at its retail gasoline stations in Hanoi and Hai Phong starting from August 1st.
Petrolimex Group previously sold E10 gasoline at 36 of its retail gasoline stations in Ho Chi Minh City.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade announced that the pilot program for E10 gasoline is a preparatory step towards gradually replacing traditional gasoline with bio-gasoline nationwide.

Mr. Cao Hoai Duong, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vietnam Oil Corporation (PVOIL), informed that to ensure the supply of ethanol for blending E10 bio-gasoline, PVOIL will purchase from several domestic ethanol production plants and import from abroad; and coordinate with several partners to install electric vehicle charging stations, including electric cars and electric motorbikes, at gas stations in the system.
Currently, PVOIL has also developed more than 400 electric vehicle charging stations nationwide, and these stations can also be used to charge electric motorcycles.
In addition, PVOIL is working with several partners on the possibility of installing electric motorcycle battery swapping cabinets at gas stations within the PVOIL system for customers.
