(NLĐO) - According to the plan, Ho Chi Minh City has a central urban area and 6 subordinate urban areas: Thu Duc City and 5 satellite cities (upgrading 5 suburban districts).

The Prime Minister has just signed Decision No. 1711/QD-TTg approving the Ho Chi Minh City Master Plan for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050.

Specifically, regarding urban planning options, by 2030, the focus will be on reorganizing commune-level administrative units based on criteria of area and population. Urban and rural development will follow the "village within the city, city within the village" orientation, combining the preservation of inherent values ​​with sustainable development.

In the future, Ho Chi Minh City will have 6 directly subordinate urban areas, including Thu Duc City and 5 urban areas upgraded from 5 suburban districts.

Notably, Ho Chi Minh City continues to develop as a special urban area comprising a central urban area and 6 subordinate urban areas, including Thu Duc City (a type I urban area) and 5 satellite cities that basically meet the standards for upgrading to city status (including Cu Chi, Hoc Mon, Binh Chanh, Nha Be, and Can Gio).

Creating new development spaces for the city through the planning and construction of underground spaces, water spaces, and digital spaces. Implementing the planning and construction of underground spaces throughout the city as part of the urban planning process.

The urban space is organized according to a multi-centered, multi-functional orientation, forming creative knowledge urban areas, industrial-urban-service zones with a city-within-a-city model. Appropriate development of buffer zones and ecological zones between cities and between cities and the central urban area is also pursued.

After 2030, the construction of urban areas based on the multi-center city model will begin, including: the central urban area, Thu Duc urban area, Cu Chi - Hoc Mon urban area, Binh Chanh urban area, District 7 - Nha Be urban area, and Can Gio urban area (coastal ecological urban area).

The official boundaries of urban areas are determined by the urban establishment decisions approved by competent authorities. By 2050, the construction of Ho Chi Minh City according to the multi-center city model will be completed.
